Ukrainians massacred Poles. Poles massacred Ukrainians. Romanians massacred Ukrainians. Ukrainians massacred Romanians. And all of them massacred Jews and Romani people.

It was Europe in the time of nationalism, hatred and fear when all these nations were being passed around like footballs between empires.

If the perpetrators have been punished or are dead, the best anyone can do now is identify the dead, bury them with dignity, build a monument to acknowledge the past, re-conciliate and look towards a better future together.

So Polish nationalists jerking themselves off over Volyn when Ukraine is already making these steps to heal the past is exactly the kind of cheap sabotage the Russians love to see us do between ourselves, because it's precisely the kind of division they can profit from and cause rifts that might bring us all under their influence again.

Ukraine deserves to be in the EU more than most European countries for what they've sacrificed and some Polish politicians have no right to demand anything of them.
