Accidentally tripped over this gem from @TorontoStar archives while researching something else. Banting & Best (the latter only 23), experiment obsessively day & night in sweltering lab, sleep beside their work, discover insulin. What a gift to humanity.

@TessKalinowski Aw jeez, you fine people. Thanks. @jleerankin @RMadonik (BTW that's ultra-prepared Rick "Two Of Everything" Madonik wearing about 1/10th of his usual Afghan kit).

"Mr. President -- First, allow me to congratulate you on the all-time-records tens of thousands of reporters who've come to see you today. Far more reporters than ever gathered for Obama."
Hey world, please share -- Can anyone help our Libyan friend @HadiNaser? He's trapped tonight en route from Canada to Libya, stuck in the empty international transit zone at Brussels airport. Can't go forward, can't go back, as borders slam shut. Hasn't slept in 35 hours. Stuck.
@Spartacussin @FidelCatsro@HadiNaser There's a lot of livelihoods on the line at the company he founded, I can understand how he felt need to race back to meet those responsibilities. Yes his wife is Canadian citizen. She's trying to get Ottawa's attention, I am told.
@CarsinLanesTO@tomhanks Ask him after he's slept maybe? He's not a source for epidemiology, he's a web developer (and the least political guy I know in the Middle East). But incredibly welcoming, provided major help to traveling @TorontoStar reporters over the years.
Hey @RMadonik -- Hadi is such a standup guy -- and the reason we were able to slip so smoothly to Benghazi during the Libyan uprising. He smoothed the way from Tripoli, led us to @muttardi.
Hadi sent this of his current location. He's literally the only person in the transit zone in Brussels. @tomhanks could probably turn this into a movie when he gets better. Oh wait ...
Hadi was in Regina with his (Canadian) wife and kids, visiting family. He was flying back to Tripoli via Tunis to get back to work at his IT company, @LibyanSpider. He's got a staff of 50 there. Then border slammed shut. Denied boarding to Tunis, tried to reroute. No way home.
