Today, I paused and took a deep breath.

I saw you in a dream – so vividly. Strangely enough, you had ordered an Uber for us to go somewhere. As the ride arrived, I saw you dressed in a dark suit, holding the door open for me. Yet, just as I drew closer to the car, you left the door open and quietly walked away, fading into thin air.

That image startled me awake from a deep slumber, plunging me into a familiar ache of despair and anxiety. Even through my childlike interpretation of the dream, I knew with painful clarity that you were truly gone.

Unlike most people, you always carried a deep desire to live a life of positive impact. If you ever left the comfort of your home, it was always for a worthy cause. And if you chose someone as your friend and companion, it meant they were truly special. I hope you knew that you always made me feel special – in the most profound way.

Whether in our private moments of deep reflection or through our many shared experiences, you consistently valued my presence. You never tired of reminding me of the special person you believed me to be, and you often spoke of the rare bond we shared.

Who else could I speak to so freely about everything—my medical struggles,my work and research? Who else shared so effortlessly in the many compartments of my life—our partners, our children, even our very special mothers? I was among the few privileged enough to share your family with you, and I never took that for granted.

We celebrated every personal victory together. And yes, during moments of great difficulty – particularly after the loss of the 2016 elections, when disappointment gave way to a painful backlash – you stood firm. Through it all, when others drifted away, you held tightly to your family and to the few friends you had .

You made one promise to me. And you promised that President John Mahama’s comeback would be one of the greatest in Ghana’s history. rue to your word, you delivered – fully and faithfully.

Your appointment as Ghana’s Defence Minister was no accident; it was well earned. You were clearly onto something special. Who else could have carried such responsibility with such clarity of purpose – to equip our armed forces, preserve our territory, secure our sovereignty and safeguard President Mahama’s success?

Then came the unthinkable. The events of Wednesday, 6 August, cut short our time together. How can a single day undo years of shared history? How can a single moment silence a voice so full of promise?

You always called me “Mummy,” and I always called you my “Son.” Only two very special people truly understood why those endearing names meant so much to us.

Now, I have no choice but to let go – to hold onto the beautiful memories and simply say thank you. Thank you for being one of the greatest and most meaningful friends of my life. You impacted me deeply. You inspired me immensely. You made my life truly special.

I miss you so much, Dr. (Med) Edward Kofi Omane Boamah.
