Using AI + retinal imaging to improve fair, early disease detection in #Africa.
#MARCADPlus fellow, Dr Majidah, presented part of her research findings on ''Genetic diversity & signatures of selection in #ivermectin target glutamate-gated chloride channel of #Anopheles populations in sub-Saharan Africa'' at the @mrcunitgambia Genomics Interest Group meeting
Dr. Ahmed Futa shared how @mrcunitgambia has spent nearly 80 years strengthening infectious disease research through investments in laboratories, clinical research facilities, quality systems, data platforms and training the next generation of African researchers.
Reflecting on lessons from multi-country clinical trials, Dr. Ahmed Futa emphasised that preparedness starts with early stakeholder engagement. Bringing together regulators, ethics committees, ministries, investigators and sponsors from the outset, alongside standardised systems and trial-ready sites, enables faster study activation and stronger evidence generation during outbreaks.
