This was Vice Admiral Chijioke Ogbonna Kaja, the FIRST ethnic Igbo officer who attained the three-star generalship across all branches of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
A 1963 entrant to the Nigerian Navy, some of his peers included the duo of former CNSs (Vice Admirals Murtala Nyako and Dan Preston Omatsola).
Another upstanding mate of his was the excellent Rear Admiral Emmanuel Omotehinwa.
Kaja emerged as a Vice Admiral in 1992 and retired in Q1 1993.
The rest of the 3-star Generals who retired in 1993 left on 27 August with IBB - the service chiefs, Vice Admiral Elegbede, Lt Gen Garba Duba.
