NEWS: Elon Musk says SpaceX bought the $1 billion turbine company, not him personally.

Reports this summer said Elon Musk spent about $1 billion buying APR Energy, a firm with a fleet of trailer-mounted gas and diesel turbines that can make more than 1 gigawatt of power.

Elon Musk pushed back on the framing. "Since I'm the controlling shareholder of SpaceX, it weirdly gets reported as me buying it, which is not true," he said. The buyer is SpaceX.

AI data centers need power now. These turbines sit on trailers that can be trucked in and switched on fast. The same class of units already runs at the Colossus AI site.

Power is the bottleneck for AI. That is what SpaceX is buying.
