As HMS Prince of Wales and HMS Repulse were heading to the Pacific, the brand new aircraft carrier HMS Indomitable was undergoing trials in the Caribbean. A common story holds that she was to accompany Force Z to the Pacific, but an accidental grounding forced her to be held back, denying them crucial protection that might have saved them.
Now, how much of this story is actually true? Matthew Wright (@MJWrightNZ ) examines rare and unknown documents to separate fact from fiction. In the process, he tracks down the origins of the rumors to dispel one of naval history's longest-standing myths.

@Jansant@ethicalmartini When the Hawke Labor government folded us into super-unions it killed us. The Union officials only wanted to front the big PS campaigns as they saw press exposure as the road to a Labor winnable seat. Didn't GAF about the Telstra people. Just extra cash from our subs for them.
@For_Film_Fans The interesting thing was that in 1955 the Upkeep bomb was still classified. Therefore the movie people had to guess what it looked like. Their guess on the left was more like Highball (basically a sphere) rather than the real one (on the right) which was basically a barrel.
@VoicesofWW2 Read up on what happened to the Panzers that reached the coast during Operation Husky. The cruisers Savannah and Boise devastated the German tanks. Even near misses would blow tanks onto their sides and roofs. There were 6 battleships and 23 cruisers available for Normandy.
@revsandy01 741st Tank Battalion only had 5 tanks reach the beach, but 743rd Tank Battalion got all 32 ashore ok. Only 2 of the tanks that got ashore actually waded. The rest were landed directly on the beach.
@Tank_Archives Technically during the invasion of Diego Suarez, the amphibious invasion included (of all things) 6 Valentines and 6 Tetrarchs. They did equally poorly.
