NEW: Sharyn Alfonsi goes scorched earth on Bari Weiss:
"Over the weekend, my contract with CBS News expired, drawing to a close nearly twenty years with the network, including more than a decade at 60 Minutes.
Following an intense editorial dispute over our CECOT story, repeated attempts by my representation to establish a path forward were met with absolute silence from network executives. The message could not be clearer: my time at 60 Minutes is apparently over.
In the coming days, network leadership may attempt to hide behind corporate euphemisms like "modernization" and “restructuring” to explain away my departure. Don't be misled. This was not a routine corporate transition; it was a deliberate choice to penalize a journalist for refusing to sanitize factually accurate reporting, and it sends a chilling message to the entire newsroom.
Fearless, independent reporting has always been the defining standard at 60 Minutes. Today, CBS management is abandoning that mission, choosing access journalism over accountability and protecting power rather than scrutinizing it.
The wall between editorial independence and corporate interest at CBS is being methodically torn down. Journalists willing to challenge authority are being pushed aside in favor of those who will not. If this continues, the result will be a broadcast that looks like 60 Minutes but lacks the courage and character to produce journalism that matters.
To my colleagues, who became family - working beside you has been the privilege of a lifetime. You are second to none. I’ve learned exactly what it costs to hold the line right now. Hold it anyway. Viewers and the people who trust us with their stories deserve nothing less."

@paulg@OhMyNotAgain99 Except the left I align with rightfully believe our oligarchy is taking what’s rightfully ours and they pay our politicians to help them. Centrists love to do this though so 👍
This is a hard article to read, but I hope you'll do so. I've spent some time reporting on widespread rape and other sexual violence of Palestinian male and female prisoners by Israeli authorities, and the article is now published. The assault victims were warned not to give speak of what they endured -- they were sometimes told they would be killed or raped if they gave interviews -- but they found the courage to do so. One man described being raped three times in a single day in Israeli prison, the third time after he tried to protest. A young woman said the guards would come in at the beginning of each shift and strip her naked and abuse her. Another reported that she was shown photos of herself being raped and warned they would be released unless she cooperated with Israeli intelligence. Even three children who had been detained told me they had been sexually abused. Look, whatever our position on the Middle East, we should be able to agree on being anti-rape. Sexual assaults were horrific when Israeli women were targeted on Oct. 7, and they're equally horrific when Israeli authorities use them against Palestinians day after day after day. We should be able to find common ground in opposing rape. Here's a gift link to the article: https://t.co/aMMHId49OO
Ghoulish stuff, and DEEPLY counterproductive to public safety.
The message this sends to undocumented and semi-documented immigrants is clear: “Do not call the police. If you saw a crime? No you didn’t. If you were a victim of a crime? No you weren’t. If you see a cop? Run.”

This should be on the front page of every newspaper in America.
A Syrian billionaire needed U.S. sanctions lifted so he could cash in on $12 billion in reconstruction contracts.
In an attempt to influence American foreign policy, he proposed a Trump-branded golf course, cut Jared Kushner & Ivanka Trump into a multibillion-dollar real estate deal for a resort in Albania, and had someone physically deliver a stone engraved with the Trump family crest to a Republican Member of Congress with instructions to take it to the White House to get the President's attention.
Trump threw his weight behind repealing the sanctions. They were lifted. The contracts are moving, the Trump family’s deals are expanding, and not a single Washington Republican is willing to say a word about any of it.
This is a corruption of everything the office of the presidency is supposed to stand for, and the American people deserve to know about it.

I wrote about DOJ’s indictment of the Southern Poverty Law Center, the iconic civil rights group that broke the Ku Klux Klan. DOJ would have you believe SPLC engaged in material support of domestic terrorism. Nothing could be further from the truth. Learn more here: https://t.co/ro1wABjT28
@EmilyinChas@dcexaminer You are proof we give way too much grace to the stupids in this country. So willing to sound so stupid so publicly so often in service to a madman. Or you’re a bot or a troll or looking to get in on the RW whacko rage propaganda circuit. Either way just pathetic.
Spare me the complaints about Virginia's new districts. This is my new district in Texas. Unlike VA, I wasn't able to vote on it.
The blue area is a very diverse part of the Dallas suburbs that was carved out & threw in with a bunch of rural (red) voters as far as 180 miles away!
Alternatively, they could pass a national gerrymandering ban, which ~every Democrat would support. They won't do this though, because as I said, they don't want to stop gerrymandering, they want a monopoly on it

The big bombshell didn't fall on Iran, but at the U.S. Supreme Court. A stunning leak both exposed the corporate hypocrisy of John Roberts and revealed 9 justices in open warfare

“There are estimates that show that up to 14 million people will die over the next five years alone, unnecessarily, due to the cuts to USAID,” says whistleblower Nicholas Enrich, who worked at the agency under four administrations. “And we're already starting to see the impacts. In fact, 750,000 people have already died, most of those children, according to conservative estimates.”
The accused assailant is a British immigrant who became a U.S. citizen in 2022, meaning he got his green card in 2017 or earlier.
The idea that Biden or his policies had anything to do with this is purely inflammatory political messaging divorced from any facts.
