Champagne is a traditional way to welcome the new year, but on this day in 1909 Mississippi outlawed alcohol. The state remained dry until 1966. This postcard shows Gulfport police confiscating $1,800 worth of alcohol 2 weeks after the Prohibition Law went into effect. #ms200
Happy 200th #Birthday#Mississippi! You’re a beautiful state made up of the good, the bad and sometimes the ugly. But it all combines to make you fascinating and never dull. I’ve enjoyed living here for 1/10th of your history. Thanks. Via @clarionledger#msbicentennial
