STATEMENT:
The Department of War has reduced the total number of Brigade Combat Teams (BCTs) assigned to Europe from four to three. This returns us to the levels of BCTs in Europe in 2021. This decision was the result of a comprehensive, multilayered process focused on U.S. force posture in Europe. This is resulting in a temporary delay of the deployment of U.S. forces to Poland, which is a model U.S. ally.
The Department will determine the final disposition of these and other U.S. forces in Europe based on further analysis of U.S. strategic and operational requirements, as well as our allies’ own ability to contribute forces toward Europe’s defense. This analysis is designed to advance President Trump’s America First agenda in Europe and other theaters, including by incentivizing and enabling our NATO allies to take primary responsibility for Europe’s conventional defense.
Secretary Hegseth spoke with Polish Deputy Prime Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz earlier today, and the Department will remain in close contact with our Polish counterparts as this analysis proceeds, including to ensure that the United States retains a strong military presence in Poland. Poland has shown both the ability and resolve to defend itself. Other NATO allies should follow suit.
The Department will provide more information at the appropriate time, in the appropriate setting.
Kash Patel in 2023: “I’m just saying [FBI Director] Chris Wray doesn’t need a government funded G5 jet to go to vacations. Maybe we ground that plane. $15,000 every time it takes off. Just a thought.”
(Kash Patel has reportedly used a taxpayer funded FBI jet multiple times to visit his girlfriend.)
Once again the President and Pete Hegseth show that they are not committed to security in Europe. Actions like this make us less safe and embolden Vladimir Putin. At every turn the two of them cower to Russia.
This is baloney. For starters Poland was not notified. Senior leaders contacted me yesterday saying they were blindsided. And… I’ve learned EUCOM did NOT say there was minimal risk by cancelling the deployment. This was a foolish and embarrassing course of events.
President Trump reducing U.S. troop rotations in NATO countries sends exactly the wrong message to Putin as he tries to get Russia to end the war in Ukraine. Moreover, Poland is one of the most pro-U.S. NATO allies on the front lines of the larger Russian threat.
The Pentagon blindsided Poland and pulled an armored brigade out of Eastern Europe while Russia is still waging war in Ukraine. This sends a weak message to Putin and is a slap in the face to our NATO allies. We need answers and accountability from DoD.
Rep. Don Bacon says he received a call from Poland yesterday about the cancellation of a US armored brigade to the country, and that they were "blindsided":
"They called me yesterday, they did not know, they were blindsided," he told Army leadership during a HASC hearing. "These are some of our best allies and they had no idea. They still don't know what the plan is."

BLINKEN: For every dollar we put into Ukraine, Europeans and others put in dollar and half. Notion that they were free-riding on Ukraine simply not true.
And much of money we spent on Ukraine was spent in United States to either buy weapons for Ukraine or replenish our stocks.
