Kansas already ran this exact experiment, and the record is not close. The state's proof of citizenship law blocked 31,089 eligible registrations, a tenth circuit appellate court's own precise number, 12 percent of everyone trying to register for the first time. In exchange for that, the state's own evidence in court identified 39 noncitizens who managed to register over nineteen years, an average of about two a year, which the appeals court itself called incredibly slight evidence. A federal judge eventually struck the law down entirely and ordered Kris Kobach back to legal education classes before renewing his own law license.

The SAVE America Act's polling numbers tell a similar story once you ask the actual question instead of the easy one. Voter ID alone polls at 74 percent. Ask about the documentary proof of citizenship requirement specifically, and support drops to somewhere between 51 and 65 percent depending on the poll. Ask whether people support the SAVE Act as a whole, the actual bill with its mail voting ban and its federal takeover of state election administration, and it falls to 37 percent, with 63 percent either opposed or unsure. That gap between how a slogan polls and how the actual legislation polls is not an accident. It is the entire strategy.

Worth sitting with the passport numbers too. A hundred forty million Americans do not have one. Twenty-one million voting age citizens have no citizenship document handy at all. Only five states even issue the enhanced REAL ID that shows citizenship status, and more than a third of Americans mistakenly believe their standard REAL ID already does. The gap between what people think they can produce and what they can actually produce is exactly where Kansas lost thirty-one thousand real, eligible, documented citizens the first time this idea got tried at scale.

Phang: Judge Sullivan found, in both fact and law, that the acting attorney general conceded he violated the law—a law that is intended to bring sunlight and transparency to one of the worst crimes, indeed multiple crimes committed by multiple perpetrators, in American history.

It appears Energy Secretary Chris Wright was being less than truthful when he told me his department canceled billions in clean energy grants based "on merits and unrelated to politics."

Apparently a clear and direct falsehood while testifying before Congress.

Court documents filed this month show the Trump Administration terminated 283 grants “based solely” on whether the state voted for Kamala Harris in 2024 and had two Democratic senators.

All the grants they cut sat in a state that backed Kamala Harris and has two Democratic senators.

Meanwhile, every grant in a Trump state was left alone.

This was never about waste. It was political revenge, carried out with billions of taxpayer dollars.

I offered an amendment in April to make this exact abuse illegal, and every single Republican on the committee voted against it.

Now the Administration has confessed in court to exactly what it denied before Congress.

They didn’t tell the truth to Congress, weaponized taxpayer dollars, and punished Americans for exercising their right to vote. My Republican colleagues enabled them.

That is corruption. And there must be consequences.

Ballou: Based on the reporting, Larry and David Ellison, in various conversations, talked about transforming CNN radically and potentially even firing anchors the president didn’t like. Once that happened, all the regulatory barriers for the acquisition melted away. Now, when you’re talking about giving a private benefit in exchange for a public act, that’s bribery. Trump threatened to block it unless the US got half the profits. Canada agreed July 10, and he called it "a MUCH BETTER DEAL." 4 days later, he slapped a 50% tariff on Canada anyway, and THAT'S why they skipped the ceremony.

This dolt has isolated the US from some of our best allies for no reason other than weakening our own nation to our adversaries' benefit, like Putin's.

He is making the U.S. signature on the agreements worthless.

Buttigieg: This denial about the war is especially shocking when you look at the disrespect that has been shown to those who are paying the heaviest price for it.

BitMEX was fined 100 million dollars for running what prosecutors called a money laundering platform. Trump pardoned the company and its executives the same week that fine came due, a use of the pardon power that never existed before this presidency, since a pardon has always cleared a record, not erased a debt already scheduled for payment. Nine corporate pardons total now, wiping out roughly 200 million dollars in fines, some of it money meant for actual victims.
