Proud to announce San Mateo’s first Rental Assistance Program! Non-payment of rent is the leading cause of tenant displacement across California.
Thankful to have been able to partner with the city of San Mateo to develop a proactive program helps families stay securely in their homes while supporting property owners who rely on that income — protecting vulnerable tenants, incentivizing housing supply, and maintaining property rights.
At a glance:
- San Mateo residency
- ≤60% county AMI
- signed lease in applicant’s name
- not related to landlord
- utility bill in applicant’s name

The more teams I lead, the more I realize how rare true coachability is.
The person able to hear direction, not take it personally, and actually get better often beats out any degree or accolades.
I like this - the key is to know the make up of the person who is doing the piece. I was just interviewed today and I requested an off the record brief of what they wanted to ask me & their lens for the story.
Super helpful in making sure questions were going to be aligned prior to going on the record
Thank you @moseskagan for another fantastic Reconvene! Walking around, I couldn’t help but think back to the very first one and how much the group has grown—while the format, speakers, and intimate feel have remain top-notch.
Wonderful meeting so many Twitter friends in real life and connecting with so new people doing amazing things in their field
@DDrolapas Interested in the impact on some of the long term agreements agents at CB/C21/Sotherby’s. Lots of the larger agents had pretty significant comp/fee packages - will be interesting to see how that plays out
1. Get crystal clear on your offering & the market - be ready to pay above market 2. Build a list of friends & family 3. Ask friends and family, if they don’t want to invest ask to be intro’d to someone who might be
One of the best lessons I’ve ever received on overcoming the fear of reaching out was “someone out there is hoping, praying that they get a call for an opportunity just like yours - the only thing standing between solving that for them is you picking up the phone”
Most people only ever catch a glimpse of the fight to get housing approved in CA.
Behind the scenes, nearly every project ends up needing calls with upper management just to move forward backed by extremely high-level code knowledge and receipts that only a handful of people even have access to.
It’s honestly wild how hard it’s become to build housing here.
