From the Lecture Halls of Legon to the Moon: Celebrating Christina Koch
I join the University of Ghana and the entire nation in celebrating NASA Astronaut Christina Koch on her historic membership of the Artemis II mission.
It is a point of immense pride to learn that Christina, the only woman on this pioneering lunar mission, was once an exchange student at our very own University of Ghana during the 1999/2000 academic year.
Her time at Legon was not just a passing visit; she truly immersed herself in our culture and heritage. By studying the History of Ghana, the History of Africa, Rural Sociology, Music, and even Twi for Beginners, she built a foundation of global citizenship right here in Accra.
Her gesture of hoisting the Ghanaian flag in outer space was a deeply touching moment for every Ghanaian. It is a testament to the fact that no matter how far one travels, even into the vastness of space, the friendships made and the lessons learned stay with you.
Christina’s journey from the classrooms of the University of Ghana to the frontiers of space exploration serves as a powerful inspiration to every young Ghanaian. It reminds us that our educational institutions continue to produce and shape global leaders who break barriers and reach for the stars.
On behalf of a proud nation, I wish Christina Koch and the entire Artemis II crew godspeed on your return journey to earth. May your success continue to inspire generations across Ghana, Africa, and the world to believe that there's no height that is insurmountable.
Congratulations, Christina.
Ghana is proud of you!
It was a distinct honour to host President Mnangagwa and his delegation as we work to further consolidate this partnership in the spirit of progress and continental unity.
Prioritizing children in national planning is both a moral duty and one of the best investments we can make in Ghana’s future. Through coordinated efforts, we can eliminate the obstacles our children face and create a stronger, more equitable Ghana.
I charged the graduating class to let integrity guide their work. When challenges arise, they must return to the fundamentals that brought them here: discipline, curiosity, and a commitment to excellence. Ghana needs their ideas, energy, and willingness to work together.
Congratulations to the 2025 graduating class of the University of Energy and Natural Resources.
Today, I attended the 46th Ceremonial Change of Guard at the Presidency, where the Ghana Navy formally handed over security responsibilities to the Ghana Air Force.
The ceremony featured an impressive display of drill precision and the trooping of the band, which reflect the high professional standards upheld by our armed forces.
We extend our appreciation to the outgoing guard for their dedicated service, and we welcome the incoming guard with confidence in their readiness and resolve.
May our security services continue to embody excellence, loyalty, and honor in the service of our nation.

Busy week for government. Today, President Mahama is off to the Western Region to cut sod for the dualization of the 73.6km Cape Coast -Takoradi Road.
Tomorrow, Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Hon Dr. Dominic Ayini, presents a major ORAL update and finally unfurls "Rumble in the Jungle".
Good evening @DennisMiracles, while we don’t expect a fixed exchange rate under the NDC, we seek relative stability and we are working towards that.

I just concluded a highly productive meeting with the Regional Vice President for Africa at the International Finance Corporation (IFC), Ethiopis Tafara, where we explored opportunities to deepen our partnership in support of Ghana’s development priorities, especially in the agriculture sector.
As I shared during our discussions, government is in the final stages of preparing a comprehensive Oil Palm Plantation Policy, which will be presented in the 2026 Budget.
This forms part of a broader national strategy to develop economic crops and to transform agriculture into a powerful driver of jobs, growth, and industrialisation.
The potential is enormous. With the right investment and partnerships, we believe Ghana can create over 500,000 jobs across the value chain — from cultivation and processing to manufacturing and exports — through the development of these strategic crops.
I also emphasised that such large-scale agricultural transformation requires patient capital, and we are therefore working closely with the World Bank, IFC, and other development partners to mobilise financing and catalyse private sector participation.
Ghana is ready to move.
Together with our partners, we will harness the power of agriculture to deliver inclusive growth, create jobs, and place economic crops at the heart of our nation’s transformation agenda.
