The Gautrain robbery allegation has taken a dramatic turn.

A 21-year-old passenger who claimed that three men pointed a gun at him on a Gautrain travelling between Midrand and Rosebank, allegedly stealing his iPhone and AirPods.

The incident was reported to Gautrain security, which said the matter was being investigated and that a meeting with the alleged victim had been planned.

It has now emerged that the robbery was fabricated and that no such robbery took place.

Police must now charge the 21-year-old. False claims of serious crimes waste police resources, trigger unnecessary investigations and can undermine the credibility of genuine victims.

There must be consequences for deliberately fabricating a crime.

A woman has died after a large rock was thrown from the Concord Road Bridge onto the R24 freeway near Bedfordview.

The rock smashed through her windscreen, causing head injuries.

She lost control of her vehicle and crashed into the road barriers. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

An inquest has been opened at Bedfordview Police Station.
Authorities are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
