I was delighted to join students for the presentation on Treaty 9. Toronto Reference Library and @ArchivesOntario offered a rare chance to view an original copy of the James Bay Treaty, dating back to 1905–1906. This Treaty represents the nation-to-nation relationship between the Ojibway (Anishinaabe), Cree (including the Omushkegowuk), and other Indigenous Nations (Algonquin) with the Crown, covering the James Bay and Hudson Bay watersheds in Ontario, about two thirds of the province’s total landmass. Wonderful to see young students learning about Crown-Indigenous Relations. Thank you to Deputy Grand Chief Natasha Martin of the Taykwa Tagamou Nation Mushkegowuk Council for sharing with us the story of her ancestor, who was one of the signatories of Treaty 9. @torontolibrary

Our government’s 2 billion tree program is well underway.
And now, a new tree nursery at @munbotgarden will help meet that goal through a new $295,000 investment.
This will be the first nursery focused on growing native varieties of trees, and will produce 500 trees annually!
