Mount Vernon's CaliAna anchored a first place finish in the sprint medley relay... but got disqualified.
An hour later, teammate Evelyn Moeller won an epic 800m run, and Whitaker was the first to hug her.
This team just clinched a 3A championship for a reason.
After a tough sprint medley DQ to start the day, Cali (also 7th in 100) and Evelyn won state titles in the 200 (24.44) and 1500 (4:28.07) to help bring a state championship back to Mount Vernon! Both were new school record times. This team showed incredible heart today. So proud!
Evelyn Moeller has another state championship in the 800. She runs an epic final 100 meters to snag the win in 2:11.46 (school record), and Caroline Rupe runs 2:25. 47 to finish 19th!
4x200 of Khloe, Skylar, Annabelle, and Taylor run 1:48.73 this afternoon and the 4x400 of Charlie, Eastin, Sorell and Caroline run 4:10.60 to close out Day 2 for the Stangs!
Kiersten Swart and Sorell Telecky run 67.17 and 67.53 to finish 10th and 15th in the 400 hurdles. Last lap around the blue oval for Kiersten and more to come for Sorell!
Cali Whitaker is a State Champion in the 400 and lowers her school record to 55.51! She also qualified for the finals in the 100 and 200, resetting the 200 school record to 24.45 in the prelims!
