Metropolitan is working with @LaVerneFireDept & @LACOFD to respond to a fire at a Metropolitan facility in La Verne. The fire occurred at a battery energy storage system near a solar panel field on the northeast side at the facility, which houses Weymouth Water Treatment Plant

The safety of Metropolitan’s water supply is not affected. We are supporting our first responders as they take the appropriate steps to help ensure the health and safety of residents, employees and others in the affected area.

Today, Charley is in downtown Los Angeles with SCWC founding member Metropolitan Water District for the finish of an incredible journey along the Colorado River.

Water advocate and ultrarunner Mina Guli has spent the last 100 days running roughly 2,000 miles along the Colorado River, using every mile to bring attention to the river, the communities that depend on it and the need to work together to secure its future.

Charley had the opportunity to join today’s conversation about what Mina’s journey has taught us: bringing people together around water can accomplish far more than working against one another.

That’s a message that hits home for SCWC. California’s water challenges are complex, but progress starts when we get people in the same room, find common ground and work toward solutions together.

Congratulations to Mina on an incredible journey, and thanks to MWD for bringing people together for an important conversation about the future of the Colorado River.

WE DID IT!!! 🥹🤯

90 days ago, I stood beside a tiny trickle at the source of the Colorado River in the Rockies. Today, 2,000 miles later, I crossed the finish line in Los Angeles.

There were so many moments when this felt completely ridiculous. Days I was exhausted, scared, lonely, running on almost no sleep and wondering how on earth I was going to do it all again the next morning.

But one step became a mile, until one mile became 2,000.

We can do hard things. Really hard things. Everyone has their own version of 2,000 miles and while big goals can be confronting, scary and overwhelming, progress happens step by step. And when we work together, even the hardest things become possible.

Thankyou to my incredible team, to everyone who shared their stories and knowledge with me along the way, to the strangers who met me with such kindness and generosity, and to every person who encouraged me through the hardest days.

None of this would have been possible without you. I hope you’ll join us for the next chapter of this extraordinary journey as we turn the awareness and momentum we’ve built into action for the Colorado River and the 40+ million people who depend on it.

The Bureau of Reclamation has released the Final Environmental Impact Statement outlining an adaptive decision framework for Post-2026 Operational Guidelines and Strategies for Lake Powell and Lake Mead. The framework will guide operating decisions over the next 10 years to ensure reliable operations and the flexibility to respond to changing conditions and preserves the opportunity for the Basin to continue working towards consensus agreements

The framework will be used to develop operating guidelines for Lake Powell and Lake Mead in anticipated two-year intervals. This adaptive approach provides a transparent process for making operational decisions and allows Reclamation the flexibility to use the best available information when responding to hydrological conditions.
