Liam Delap was drafted from the Under-21s into England senior training at St George’s Park last year and returned almost speechless in admiration at Harry Kane’s finishing, the accuracy and the additional sessions. Practice makes perfect. Kane’s relentless in maximising his abilities. 

These extraordinary numbers that Kane keeps posting for club and country are rooted in his supreme work ethic on and off the pitch. There are no short cuts, nothing’s been handed to Kane. He was sent out on loan early in his career, didn’t sulk, just worked hard, honing his finishing, getting leaner, sharper and faster before returning and delivering at Spurs and now Bayern Munich. And prolifically with England.

His success is down to dedication in training, in the gym, in diet and the vital support of his parents, brother, his wife Katie and their children. Team Kane. So perhaps we should not be surprised by the incredible numbers Kane currently delivers in Germany. Vorsprung durch practice. 100 goals in his first 104 games for Bayern Munich is phenomenal, the fastest this century in Europe’s top five leagues.

OK the defending is not necessarily always elite level across the Bundesliga but Kane takes his chances because of his intelligence of movement, his finishing touch and because he’s ready. It’s what Kane dedicates himself to. All those sacrifices off the field, the time spent in preparation leads to this. 

Is Kane fully appreciated? Perhaps because he produces excellence game in, game out, we come to expect it. Almost take it for granted. He’s not Messi/Ronaldo level but the rank below, close to the greats. He’s certainly an England great, a record goalscorer whose mark may never be beaten. Kane is 32, will go to the World Cup, but realistically who is pushing for his place as a No 9? He’s on 74 goals atm and could push the England scoring record into the 90s.

If he returned to the Premier League next year (unlikely because Bayern going so well for him), Kane could have a crack at Alan Shearer’s remarkable 260-goal PL record. Kane’s 47 short. It would be a huge challenge. 

Kane certainly deserves to be celebrated more. He’s not only a great role model as a likeable, unflashy, grounded person, a leader who takes responsibility in difficult moments. Kane is a supreme example of how a professional should be, a player who dedicates himself to finishing, to winning and to representing his clubs and country well. To making the most of his talent and his career. We’ll miss Harry Edward Kane when he eventually retires. But there are plenty more goals - and entries in the record books - in him yet.  #ENG #THFC #FCBayern
