Throwback to the early, early beginnings of I-10 in Florida.

Taken in September of 1957, this photo shows a group of people looking over the proposed plans for I-10 through Tallahassee just a few years before the first section of this critical corridor was completed on the east side of Florida as part of Eisenhower’s Interstate System. Nearly 70 years later, this coast-to-coast interstate has transformed transportation in North Florida, connecting communities and fueling economic growth across the region.

FDOT’s Howard Frankland Bridge Project won the Operational Excellence – Large Project award at this year’s Southern Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (SASHTO) Annual Conference.

Serving nearly 200,000 drivers daily, the new 6.4 mile bridge doubles the previous capacity and strengthens a vital link in our regional transportation network in one of the region’s busiest corridors.

As a regional winner, this project will now compete for a place in @aashtospeaks “Top 12” Grand Prize and People’s Choice Awards later this year.

Led by @NewsfromJEA in partnership with the Florida Department of Transportation, the @CityofJax and JAXPORT, this project will provide 205 feet of operational clearance at our Blount Island terminal—supporting the continued growth of international container trade and the 15,000 jobs it sustains.

Across the state, blooming wildflowers have brought a splash of color to roadside meadows this season as part of FDOT's Wildflower Program, which started back in 1963.

Remember, never stop along the roadside to take pictures or pick the flowers, but do enjoy a scenic drive among Florida's natural beauty from the safety of your vehicle.

Recently, FDOT crews captured this video of a group of otters surveying the area around the New River in Union County, Florida. Just like these wetland creatures, FDOT diligently surveys the region surrounding a project during it’s early planning stages in order to best support the local wildlife. From early environmental planning, to protecting habitats during work and restoring natural areas once a project is complete, our agency actively works to support wildlife at every stage.

Today, FDOT joined @GovRonDeSantis to announce the partnership between the State of Florida and @EmbryRiddle that establishes the center for advanced air mobility that will conduct state-of-the-art research to help make flying cars a reality.

The Governor also announced the accelerated start of a major roadway project on Clyde Morris Boulevard in Volusia County. These improvements are being advanced to construction 2 years sooner and will completely
