Today is International Youth Day, and a prime opportunity not only to talk about Ghana’s future but its current capacity and what the NDC is doing for the Youth.

According to Ghana Statistical Services’ report in July 2026, young people aged 15 to 35 now make up 36.9 percent of our population: more than one in every three Ghanaians. Youth unemployment currently stands at 21.9 per cent, nearly double the national rate of 12.8 per cent.

Nearly two million young people are neither in education, employment, nor training. Those numbers describe capacity sitting idle, not people unwilling to work.

This is why investment in the Youth by the NDC government is not merely social spending. It is the highest-return investment available to this country: in skills training matched to real demand, in startup capital for those who will create their own work, and in the private sector conditions that turn growth into jobs.

We are implementing the No Fees Stress Policy, ensuring access to university education and reducing burden on parents, the National Apprenticeship Programme which is equipping young people with the right skills for entrepreneurship, and the One Million Coders programme giving young people digital skills to compete globally, expansion of legal education, among others, are steps this government is taking to bridge the gap and change the statistics above.

Investment in young people will continue to be a priority for the NDC.
