@business Lindt may postpone a store, but #Dubai ’s place on the world stage isn’t on hold. The region will stabilize, and they’ll come eventually. Global brands know where the opportunity is.

@TheAlphaThought Instead of $VGT try $IUIT , Ireland domicile , focusing on 73 S&P companies that are categorised as Tech in S&P , and biggest weight on top ones . Next five yrs nothing will grow more than tech obviously .
This is starting to look like confirmation bias: start with the portfolio you already own, then keep finding periods and statistics that validate it.
2022 gets highlighted because SCHD lost only ~3% vs ~18% for VOO. Fair. But then look at what followed: by your own numbers SCHD returned just 4.5%, 11.7% and 4.3% in 2023–25 vs VOO at 26.3%, 25.0% and 17.8%.
Even OVL’s own official data showed only 16.77% annualized since its 2019 inception vs 16.25% for the S&P 500 TR through Sep 2025 ,about 0.5%/yr difference , while charging a 0.79% expense ratio.
And OVL’s own 2025 shareholder report shows it actually underperformed the S&P 500 that fiscal year: 14.61% vs 15.88%.
SCHD is a good ETF. OVL may be a good strategy. But constantly finding the specific timeframe where your preferred combination wins doesn’t prove it is superior.
Sometimes simplicity wins: own the S&P 500, pay almost nothing, capture growth + value + dividends + tomorrow’s winners, reinvest and compound for decades. No overlays, no factor timing, no need to engineer a solution to a problem that may not exist.
SCHD is an excellent strategy, but the context matters. SCHD launched in 2011 and the Dow Jones U.S. Dividend 100 Index was launched Aug 31, 2011, so the spectacular 1998 - 2011 numbers are hypothetical backtested results, not actual investor returns.
Meanwhile, the S&P500 isn’t exactly a weak benchmark to beat. Over the long run it has delivered roughly 10% annualized total returns, while continuously evolving by removing declining companies and adding emerging leaders. $VOO alone now represents roughly 500 of America’s largest companies, at just a 0.03% expense ratio.
More importantly, the S&P 500 automatically captures whichever sector becomes dominant. Today that includes Nvidia, Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, Alphabet, Meta and Broadcom. Twenty years from now the winners may be completely different , the index adapts without the investor having to predict them.
SCHD’s downside protection and dividend discipline are impressive, especially in years like 2022. But choosing a starting point around the dot-com bubble heavily favors value/dividend strategies. Other periods heavily favor the S&P 500.
SCHD is a great strategy. The S&P 500 is also one of the greatest long term wealth-compounding machines ever created. A backtest from 1998 isn’t enough evidence for me to abandon it.
Dubai didn’t become the world’s busiest international airport and one of the world’s most connected aviation hubs by accident. It was built over decades on infrastructure, connectivity, trade, tourism and business.
A few airline cancellations don’t change that reality. Hundreds of millions of passengers, businesses and investors have already voted with their feet.
“Buckle up” indeed. Dubai is flying.
The real story isn't imperialism. It's that sovereign African governments continue to choose the UAE as a long term partner because it delivers infrastructure, ports, logistics, investment and execution, not endless promises. Countries don't sign decades long agreements because they're forced to; they do so because they see tangible economic value, jobs, connectivity and trade growth. Calling every successful partnership "empire" ignores the agency of African nations and says more about the observer's worldview than the reality on the ground.
$SPCX have two major price moving events within days:
First earnings tomorrow , and a very large insider share unlock beginning Thursday, 6 August
Reports indicate roughly 900 million additional shares may become eligible for sale, creating possible supply pressure even if the earnings are decent.
@elonmusk
Competition is good for the Gulf, and this is not a zero sum game. What others are building today, Dubai and the UAE started building decades ago, not just ports, but a complete ecosystem of free zones, aviation, logistics, digital trade and global connectivity. More regional capacity makes the Gulf collectively stronger and more competitive as a global trade hub. The region wins together, while the UAE continues to strengthen its global network, deepen its trade ecosystem and create greater value for traders and supply chains.
Dr, The UAE approach is not a gamble; it is strategic pragmatism. Geography cannot be changed, but risk can be managed. Deterrence, diplomacy and economic strength give the UAE leverage while protecting its role as a global hub. Stability is not weakness , it is a strategic and economic asset.
@elonmusk What the hell is the new premium connectivity introduced in UAE!! Shall I pay monthly subscription for navigation that I got free when I bought the car?!
I was genuinely shocked when I received this email from Tesla.
Apparently, my “Premium Connectivity” trial is ending, and if I want to keep features like live traffic, satellite maps, streaming and other connected services, I need to pay a monthly subscription.
I already paid for the car tens of thousands . I already pay for insurance, registration and maintenance.
Now I need to keep paying every month so my car stays… premium?
“Premium Connectivity” is a nice marketing name.
“Premium Monthly Billing” would be more honest. 😅
Is this really where the automotive industry is heading?
Are people ok with this?

@BlackMambaMilli@inked_investing Do $CSPX , Ireland domicile, black rock ETF for non US residents, it is the best globally.. auto reinvesting dividends 😌
From 'Sell your kidney, never sell Bitcoin' to 'Let's build a USD reserve.' The irony writes itself. If holding forever was the strategy, why the growing need for cash?
This is exactly why absolutes don't work in finance. Every treasury eventually needs liquidity. 'Never sell BTC' sounds great ,until cash flow, obligations, and risk management enter the conversation. @PeterSchiff
