Black October, 48-hour recap: if you run a VPS, today is patch day, not coffee day ☕
PHP, GitLab, Node and LiteLLM all got hit in the same 48 hours. Here's the 5-minute checklist.
1. PHP "php2shell" (CVSS 9.2, remote code execution). Run php -v. Safe: 8.5.12 / 8.4.27 / 8.3.36 / 8.2.35 or newer. Older? Update, then restart php-fpm.
2. Self-hosted GitLab: CVE-2026-110264, a perfect 10.0, affecting versions back to 7.0 (2014). Upgrade to the patched release for your branch (e.g. 19.5.1) and check your logs.
3. Node.js: fixed releases shipped Oct 21. Run node -v, then update.
4. LiteLLM 1.107.0 on PyPI/Docker shipped a credential stealer. Run pip show litellm. If you ever had 1.107.0, uninstalling is NOT enough: rebuild from 1.106.2 and rotate every key from a clean machine.
5. Ignore "urgent: reset your password" emails riding the news.
Cloudflare's numbers: thousands of exploit attempts before disclosure, millions a few hours after. "Patch released" to "you got popped" is now measured in minutes.
Which one got you? 1, 2, 3, 4, or "I'm fine" (lying)?
Whats happening right now is probably way worse than the Hugging Face incident.
AI-powered attacks are hitting real organizations while major platforms disclose breaches and critical flaws.
- Microsoft reports AI agents targeting hundreds of organizations, reaching privileged cloud access in under three hours in multiple cases. It attributes the ConnectWise compromise to the same group.
- CrowdStrike documented four operators running successful AI-agent campaigns. One compromised at least 15 Argentine healthcare organizations.
- PHP2Shell: AI helped turn longstanding PHP flaws into working exploits. Cloudflare’s CEO reports millions of exploitation attempts. Their AI involvement is unknown.
- Railway disclosed possible access to customer secrets. LiteLLM shipped a backdoored release. Zeabur confirmed another breach and is shutting down.
- GitLab patched a maximum-severity flaw affecting 12 years of releases. Node.js patched a serious code-execution vulnerability, with Vercel deploying firewall protections.
Feels like a turningpoint.
