@EmpireCityBO Whats especially impressive about the stat is we hit that benchmark despite the film that was expected to be the dominant movie for this period (Mandalorian) under performing expectations a bit, which to me indicates a pretty healthy robust box office not overly reliant on 1 film
@Batrachian393@LukeBarnett@FreddyInSpace The risk can be particularly high for low budgeted films that are filmed without guaranteed distribution, such as Obsession. There was a chance no one outside a film festival saw this. 90+% of indie produced films fail to ever recoup their budgets
@Batrachian393@LukeBarnett@FreddyInSpace Many movies never make their money back & you want to pretend that very real risk those that financed Obsession took doesn’t exist.. because surely we aren't saying crews should share in the risk and be required to surrender a % of their pay if a film fails to break even?
@NathanCHubbard Is it the fifth iteration of jessie? I thought we didn’t meet her until the second movie but i admit i could be wrong, i haven't seen the first 2 since the early aughts
@stephenboyd1337@McJuggerNuggets All this vitriol & hate over the decision of strangers. For what? Because they were one of the unlucky few who are dealt a terrible hand & forced to make a decision with no good option? Its easy to fain outrage but 67-74% of couples in the same situation make the same decision
@ScottDMenzel This is interesting to look back on now a month later where we’ve seen movies like Obsession and Backrooms defying expectations to an extent nobody could have seen coming.
@icshanisabel This just isn’t true? To the point that Swift (and the world) had thought the “feud” was long gone before kanye made “famous.” If anyone, Kanye has been the one “milking” what happened in 2009, repeatedly trying to remind the world of his connection to Swift.
@EWErickson Infidelity is honestly the least of Paxtons problems, the rampant corruption is far more disqualifying. And who are we kidding, how can anyone in the modern GOP pretend that an unfaithful marriage is disqualifying for office given the party has remade itself in Trumps image?
@EmpireCityBO@ScaryMovie@mastersmovie@A24 Not surprising to see it slow down a bit, Backrooms isn’t as commercial a film as Obsession and I'm not saying that as a criticism, its much more a mood piece of sorts which i think was Parsons exact intent but it just means it was always gonna be harder to expand the audience
@aManAboutFilm Ticket presales to date are actually strong for Disclosure Day? I beg of people please for the love of god stop being so chronically online & obsessing over fleeting “discourse”
@EmpireCityBO Hes also totally taking Spielbergs comments on AI way out of context, he’s been pretty clear he doesn’t think AI should be used in front of the camera or in making creative decisions.
@elonmusk@paulg Anytime i want to feel smart i just have to remind myself the richest man in the world doesn’t seem to know the difference between fascist “National Socialism” and marxist socialism. Sad!
@GiteshPandya I mean i think not only can $200 million global not be ruled out, I think it can’t be ruled out that it gets close to or even around $200 million just in the domestic US/Canada market alone. Not saying that happens, but at this point its growth trend is still going 🤷♂️
@EmpireCityBO ..including one thats given it 6 shows between 10 and 11, some just 5 minutes apart, another theater has 4 shows between 10:50 & 11:15 & even with all that supply, the showings still all look like this
@EmpireCityBO Its going crazy around me in socal, its evening shows tonight (even the late night shows) were sold out or near sold out across the board from usually quiet theaters to the big 20+ screen multiplexes. Some theaters have started giving it additional screens for 10pm-12am shows
