Farooq Kperogi is not a member of the APC. He is not a spokesperson for President Tinubu. In fact, he has been one of Tinubu's fiercest critics.
Yet today, he publicly admitted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu proved him wrong in Kwara.
That is what intellectual honesty looks like.
Months ago, Kperogi warned that Tinubu would allegedly impose a Yoruba candidate on Kwara in pursuit of what he called a "Yoruba agenda." Today, after the emergence of Yakubu Danladi Salihu from the long-marginalized Borgu axis of Kwara North, he has publicly retracted that assumption.
The significance of this goes beyond party politics.
Kwara North has never produced a governor since the state's creation in 1967. For decades, power remained concentrated elsewhere. But under Tinubu's watch, power has now shifted to a zone many believed would never get the opportunity.
This completely destroys the false narrative that President Tinubu is driven by ethnic favoritism.
If Tinubu's objective was ethnic domination, why would he support a political outcome that empowered one of the most politically marginalized groups in Kwara State?
Facts are stubborn things.
Even Kperogi, who had every reason to maintain his previous position, chose instead to acknowledge reality.
Leadership is not about pleasing everybody. It is about doing what is fair, even when powerful interests are pushing in another direction.
The lesson here is simple:
When critics attack Tinubu unfairly, they eventually find themselves correcting the record. The President's greatest response to propaganda has never been words. It has always been results.
As Kperogi himself admitted, Tinubu resisted exclusionary pressures and welcomed a historic power shift to Kwara North.

No matter how long LIES run, the TRUTH will overtake with a single step.
Earlier today, Bisi @bisiafayemi and I exercised our civic responsibility by casting our votes at Ward 11, Isan-Ekiti, in the Ekiti State governorship election. I was encouraged by the impressive turnout and the orderly manner in which voters came out to perform their civic duty and exercise their democratic right.
Before proceeding to the polling unit, I met with leaders of the Isan Progressive Union following the unfortunate incident that occurred in the community last night. Isan-Ekiti has always been a peaceful community, and what transpired was an isolated altercation between two individuals. It had nothing to do with politics or the election. I commend the swift response of community leaders and residents, whose efforts ensured that normalcy prevailed and that citizens turned out to vote as expected.
I have also received assurances from the police authorities, up to the level of the Deputy Inspector General of Police, that a thorough investigation is underway and that anyone found culpable will be brought to justice. We must ensure that this unfortunate incident does not disturb the peace and harmony for which our community is known. May the soul of the departed rest well.
I urge all Ekiti people to remain peaceful and continue to conduct themselves in the finest traditions of our democracy.
