This Syrian old man hid his private library in his home in the city of Damascus since the end of 2011 before escaping to Kuwait out of fear of the Assad regime, where the mere presence of a banned book could lead you to Assad's gulag and death under torture.

Today, the uncle returned to his library and completely removed the wall behind which he had hidden it, revealing valuable books that the Assad regime prohibited possessing and circulating.

As a concluding act to the successful #SpringMeetings2025 in Washington, D.C. this week, I had the distinct honor of presenting a traditional artifact — a Haan from #Somalia — to the @WorldBank. For the first time, a Somali artifact is now proudly displayed in the World Bank offices.

The artifacts showcased at the World Bank are far more than decorations; they are enduring symbols of unity, respect, partnership, and global responsibility. The presence of Somalia’s Haan signifies not only our deep appreciation but also our strong commitment to further strengthening our collaboration in the future.

The Haan itself is a powerful emblem of sustenance, resilience, and the rich traditions of the Somali people— values that align beautifully with the principles of sustainable development and partnership.

@alihwarsame Ali, To clarify your point of view, the “National ID does not have an expiration date, while the “I’d number” is valid for a lifetime. However, due to technological advancements and improvements, physical cards will be issued for each ten-year period.
