From the back of an ambulance to the highest offices of public safety, his was a career of unmatched service to Johannesburg and South Africa:

• 1981: Started as a frontline paramedic with Johannesburg Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
• 1989: Promoted to EMS Superintendent
• 1999: Acting Director of the EMS Academy
• 2001: Appointed EMS Director of Operations and placed in charge of all city fire stations
• Pioneered and helped establish Johannesburg’s elite Urban Search-and-Rescue Unit while acting Chief of EMS
• 2003: Moved to the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) as Director of Operations
• 2011–2013: Served as National Chief of Traffic (head of the national traffic authority)
• 2013: Resigned to work as a law-enforcement consultant
• 2 January 2017: Returned triumphantly as Chief of JMPD – the top cop of Africa’s wealthiest city
• 2021–2023: Appointed Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Public Safety
• Until his passing: Served as Strategic Adviser to the MMC for Public Safety

More than 43 years spent protecting and serving the people of Johannesburg – from saving lives as a paramedic to bringing law and order as police chief and political head of safety.
