My latest analogy for #Covid_19 It’s kind of like sexually transmitted diseases, condoms (masks) significantly reduce the chances of contracting an STD, but abstinence (social distancing) is the best way to avoid them (COVID) all together.
Just recently passed my 2 year anniversary as an Attending Physician and had a harsh realization. I miss academic medicine more then I realized, specifically bedside teaching. Excited to have the opportunity to work with UTHealth Tyler’s incoming IM residents
JPS Health Network was named the best hospital in the United States, according to a new evaluating system of hospitals doing the most good for their patients AND communities. MORE: https://t.co/JBCnqmoS7n

BREAKING: While America’s reeling from the #COVID19 crisis, my old industry - the private health insurance racket - is winning big. The proof? This morning, the nation's biggest insurer UnitedHealth Group, revealed its earnings for the last 3 months. The amount: $5 BILLION. (1/8)
Staffing companies backed by private equity are
❌ cutting physician pay,
❌ lying about doing it, and
❌ retaliating against clinicians who speak up.
@SenWarren and I are calling out those who put profit margins ahead of our frontline healthcare workers.
Today broke my heart.
Today I picked up scrubs and repurchased the clogs that got me through residency and fellowship. No more clothes or shoes that go home.
Today I had colleagues get tested for CoVid.
Today I talked about advanced directives with every ICU doctor I know.

I hope that everyone that has been beating down Emergency Medicine doctors for the past few years realizes that WE are the ones on the frontlines, facing #COVIDー19 head-on. We are the ones that can’t / won’t work remotely. 24/7/365 @TexACEP#Here4You @ACEPNow
@EmergencyDocs@DailyProgress Well said and something I wholeheartedly agree with. The system is broken and as an EM Physician we need to advocate for our patients to retain access to emergency healthcare at a reasonable cost while ensuring fair regional compensation. Times up for the big insurance companies!
As a practicing emergency physician in Charlottesville, I have seen a huge shift in which patients bear more and more of the burden to pay for their health care, even when they are fully insured. https://t.co/6wJMaLoZhY share via @dailyprogress
Developed only a few years ago, this nerve block is great for multi-level rib fractures, achieves posterior to anterior coverage, and we're doing it for pain control in the ED. What is it?@FortWorthEM #RegionalAnethesia#POCUS#Multimodal
Insurers do anything they can to keep docs out of network. Narrow networks are the root cause of #SurpriseBills! Texas Medical Assn found 30% of physicians who approached an insurer to try to join its network over one year received no response at all. #OutofTheMiddle
Did my first live News interview representing @UTHEastTexas Emergency Department discussing summer safety tips. Very cool experience. As an EM Physician I don’t get to do much preventative medicine but this was a great start
Shout out to #Toddstoxtalks @FortWorthEM for teaching me this in residency “A lactic acid greater then 10 is Tox related until proven otherwise.” Caught a supposed cholangitis transfer that was actually an acute Acetaminophen OD two days after ingestion.
