@_chrishaynes#synths#engl3246 it shows that superheroes are idols because of how they live our lives and we want to emulate them. That is what I think is going on here. Ms. Marvel by her actions and personal courage has inspired a following.
@adlo00 @_chrishaynes#engl3246 Awesome point in that these kids looked up to Ms. Marvel and I think that’s awesome that Marvel have given other heroes for kids to look up to instead of just white superheroes like Superman, Captain America, and Thor.
@_chrishaynes @ben_marshall28 @B1G_7 I would say that this initiative was not a way to boost sales, but just representative of the times as our society is striving to create more representation for minority groups in our society. #engl3246
@_chrishaynes#claims I think it teaches us that superheroes and comics are very often black and white in that there is the good guy and the bad guy and the bad guys are 100% cruel in everything they do. While real life is grey in nature and it’s hard to determine which side is switch.
@AlexisR22294691 @_chrishaynes#engl3246 I agree with this, obviously comic books are full of fiction and mythology, but can really serve as motivation in times of hopelessness.
@_chrishaynes#engl3246#claims This photo represents the disappointment and anger that a lot of people feel towards our president. By doing this, I think Marvel is taking the stance that they do not approve the President and his actions/demeanor.
@_chrishaynes#deets#engl3246 Another detail that I missed the first time is the writing at the top saying "We are all ms." Six females are in the video still along with two males.
@_chrishaynes#deets#engl3246 A group of fans hold up the Ms. Marvel comic book to their face, allowing them to create a mix of their own and Ms. Marvels. Another detail is the wide range of ages and races of the fans in the video still.
@_chrishaynes#deets#engl3246 An interesting detail that I noticed from the author of these comics is that she grew up in an atheist household so she is not writing this from her own experience growing up.
@_chrishaynes#deets#engl3246 A girl recalls a line from the Quran that her Dad often quoted. There is also a figure in the background with a red cape or scarf.
@Moranman1@_chrishaynes @ben_marshall28 @hannahhammes@toler_kristin ...I think where we mess up as a county is that we group each other into stereotypes and say things like white privilege thinking that every white person has had an easier path than every other race which isn't true and just makes people feel ashamed of their skin color.
@Moranman1@_chrishaynes @ben_marshall28 @hannahhammes@toler_kristin#engl3246 I used to have this same viewpoint until I saw this video... https://t.co/hqc8ykumM7
So while everyone works hard, too often its blacks and other minorities who are fighting an uphill battle....
@abno0189 @_chrishaynes#engl3246 I disagree, the police have done a lot of things to piss off a lot of people, but they did nothing wrong in the case of Trayvon Martin. I think this is more Kendrick calling out his own community saying that they are not perfect.
@hannahhammes@_chrishaynes#engl3246 i think black and white gives the image a more somber tone and I think that is the tone Kendrick is going for in this video about a serious topic such as race.
@_chrishaynes @ben_marshall28 #engl3246 I think musical artists and any celebrity can use this freedom to call attention to their causes and if done well they can have a great effect. I think is due to our country really placing a lot of stock in celebrity and equating fame and success to knowledge.
@_chrishaynes#claim#engl3246 I think Kendrick is calling himself out and others of the black community for being in uproar over Trayvon's Martin's death but not the deaths of other blacks. I think this is a tough realization for Kendrick and he feels guilty about it.
