Chapter 2 is literally called Are We Cockroaches? and what hit me then and still does now is not even the title. It’s the frustration behind it.

He was asking whether we’ve become a society that survives everything but fixes very little. Corruption, weak institutions, shortcuts, compromise - none of this is new btw.

And maybe that’s why this cockroach discourse is landing with so many people. Not because people enjoy the metaphor, but because way too many of us have quietly accepted that adjusting is easier than changing things.
