After winning the last 3 Ballon d’Or awards and dominating world football with Barça Femení, Aitana Bonmatí looked untouchable. Then, in late November 2025, everything changed. During a training session with Spain, she slipped just as she was about to shoot and suffered a transverse fracture of her left fibula. A brutal injury that kept her away for most of the season.

For months, Barça had to move forward without the player who had become the symbol of this era. The team that won the Champions League in 2023 and 2024 lost the final last year, and many wondered if the cycle had slowed down. But football always finds a way to create perfect stories. Aitana returned just 3 weeks ago, in time for the biggest stage again.

And now Barça are champions of Europe once more. 4-0 against Lyon in the final, a statement performance, and Aitana back where she belongs: helping lead this team at the top of women’s football. From Ballon d’Or dominance, to months of injury struggles, to lifting the Champions League again. What a comeback story.
