@_x_racer_x_@TheAusInstitute Lack of functional support services, dysfunctional recruitment, excessive red tape, absence of relocation allowances, refusal by employers to employ local workers, punitive effective marginal tax rates, other barriers to employment.
@DougCameron51 Costello sabotaged housing affordability in 1999 when he cut capital gains tax by 50%. Housing prices have increased at well over CPI since then. Costello should not be commenting on housing.
@phonakins These hampers need some serious attention from a nutritionist and a chef. There's hardly any vegetables, half the ingredients needed for proper balanced meals are missing and there's too much junk.
@antipovertycent@antipovertyqld@AntiPovertyN_SA @AusUnemployment * The failure of "mutual" obligations
* Barriers to employment for unemployed workers
* Why sickness benefit was abolished during a pandemic
* How the DSP has been made almost impossible to get including costs
* Long wait times for the aged pension
* The erosion of Medicare
@altimetr@AntonyGreenElec It's not credible to extrapolate a significant swing to Labor in one state seat to the federal election. The Black by-election had significant local factors, such as the previous member resigning in disgrace. Voters will punish misconduct at the ballot box.
@ArtistAffame Job service providers are supposed to help with these expenses with payments from the Employment Fund, but that depends on whether the provider is actually willing to help. Of course, that assumes they are not pocketing these reimbursements for themselves.
@fuzzybluerain The government has no intention of creating enough jobs for everyone. Full employment hasn't existed in Australia for 50 years. It intentionally keeps unemployment high, with a "pool" of unemployed workers, to demonise them as a threat against workers.
@fuzzybluerain This is the kind of asinine pointless busywork that is forced onto unemployed workers.
The pointlessness of the "activity" is the point.
@kevinbonham Scheduling federal elections to avoid long weekends, school holidays, state elections and religious observances is quite a chore.
What dates are available in the first five months of 2025 that avoid these clashes?
@Asher_Wolf The time between the ages of 14 and 18 is full of these annoying inconsistencies.
Example: 15 is too old for some child concessions, so must pay full price, but only able to earn "youth" wages for work.
@DAJKeffa@AntonyGreenElec No. The record is a tied vote for a Legislative Council seat in Victoria in 1985. The returning officer had to use their casting vote. They chose the winner by pulling a name out of a box.
The result was overturned on appeal.
