🇺🇬12th Speaker at a glance:
Jacob Markson Oboth Oboth’s rise through Parliament has been steady, strategic, and deeply institutional.
From representing West Budama Central, he went on to chair some of Parliament’s most consequential committees — Rules, Discipline and Privileges; Natural Resources; and Legal and Parliamentary Affairs.
He also served on the Business Committee, later joined the Executive as State Minister for Defence, rose to Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs, and now returns to Parliament’s front seat as Speaker.
A long climb. A powerful resume. A defining moment.

This is #Uganda’s truth about #Ebola
A Congolese national continues to undergo treatment after testing positive.
She was linked to the first case of a Congolese man who’d travelled to the country for treatment, died and was confirmed to have had the virus.
His body was sent back to the DRC.
Health workers and others who interacted with the two cases were traced and are now in isolation- being monitored.
None of them has so far tested positive for Ebola.
There are no local infections.
Meaning, no Ugandan or person living in Uganda has Ebola.
That’s our truth.
Fellow Ugandans, especially the Bazzukulu, greetings.
After consultations with the national epidemic response task force and religious leaders, we have decided to postpone the Martyrs' Day to a later date, which will be communicated.
This decision was made because Uganda receives thousands of pilgrims annually from Eastern Congo, which is currently experiencing an Ebola outbreak. To safeguard everyone's lives, it is essential that this important event be postponed.
I encourage those who had begun their journey to return home, continue observing the precautionary measures, report anyone who is sick, and encourage those who are ill to seek medical care.
We regret any inconvenience caused, but the protection of life must come first.
Signed:
Yoweri K. Museveni
PRESIDENT
