In 2011, during their shift on March 11, Lululemon employees Jayna Murray and Brittany Norwood conducted routine bag checks on each other.

Murray discovered a pair of leggings that Norwood was trying to shoplift and confiscated them.

Shortly after leaving the store, Norwood phoned Murray, claiming she had left her wallet behind and needed Murray to allow her back in. Tragically, Norwood then violently stabbed and bludgeoned her to death.

In the store's rear corridor, Norwood assaulted Murray using five different weapons: a hammer, a knife, a merchandise peg, and a box cutter, inflicting 331 distinct wounds during a 16-minute-long assault.

She then staged the scene to look like a robbery, putting on a pair of men's shoes to track blood across the floor; tossing mops, a broom, and chairs around the store; and finally cutting herself and binding her own wrists and ankles with zipties.

Following the murder, the coroner discovered that Murray suffered a crushed skull and a stab wound in the back of her neck so deep that it severed her spinal cord and went all the way through to her brain.

In January 2012, Norwood was sentenced to life imprisonment without possibility of parole.
