I thoroughly enjoyed the Digital Storytelling Video Showcase on Thursday. It was wonderful to gain an insight into the various research topics/areas displayed in the videos. #ArtsMResDigital
Project and time management are extremely important for research. It is amazing to see so many project management tools/programs that are available to use. I will definitely use Gantt Charts and Trello during my research project. #ArtsMResDigital
Data Management Plans are an extremely important and useful tool for a research project. It outlines what data will be acquired or created, and how that data will be used, managed, shared and preserved. #ArtsMResDigital
It was very interesting to learn about the importance of data visualisation and how it can be used to communicate and emphasise the key elements of a piece of research. Types of data visualisation include: Timelines, Network Graphs and Word Clouds. #ArtsMResDigital
Visual communication, such as videos, are a great way to make research more interesting and engaging for an audience. Videos, that are hosted publicly, are effective in reaching a wider audience, promoting one's research further. #ArtsMResDigital
I found the concept of "mess" in digital technologies quite interesting. Digital technology is often labelled as clean and organised, opposite to the "messy" physical/human world. "Mess" allows us to acknowledge that technologies are contested and never simple. #ArtsMResDigital
The fact that technology is never neutral was a real eye-opener. Because digital technology has been created by humans, who have their own beliefs and assumptions, there will always be a certain level of cultural bias and prejudice. #ArtsMResDigital
This week we learnt about the four types of data in research: Data, Metadata, Open Data and Big Data. I found it interesting how Big Data is used to identify and predict trends and problems, allowing for solutions to these issues to be developed faster. #ArtsMResDigital
Learning about and viewing different Digital Humanities (DH) Projects was very insightful and interesting. Before this week, I had never heard of DH Projects. DH Projects are useful in making sources more discoverable for users. #ArtsMResDigital
This week we learnt about Research Impact, Altmetrics and Social Media. I found it incredibly interesting and surprising that social media, especially Twitter, is a vital tool for promoting research to both academic and non-academic audiences. #ArtsMResDigital
