Healthy people love to say chronic pain patients are “too focused on their symptoms.”

Of course we are.

You get a toothache and it ruins your afternoon.

We get pain that can alter where we sit, how long we stand, whether we sleep, whether we drive, whether we eat, whether we shower, whether we make plans, whether we cancel them, and whether we can think clearly enough to get through the day.

Then somehow the person living with it is accused of being “obsessed.”

No.

Pain is intrusive.

There’s a difference.

If your smoke alarm screamed in your ear twelve hours a day, nobody would accuse you of being overly focused on the noise.

They’d understand why it had your attention.

Chronic pain deserves the same understanding.

if you are chronically ill or disabled I think it's very important to honor your feelings around how much you may have lost and allow yourself to grieve in whatever way and for however long you feel you need to*** fixed it

@FullAsMuchHeart Maybe so but guess what, you do not have the same disability that everyone else has. Some people are bed or house bound or can’t use their arms or legs, have no ndis support to enjoy anything, not even basic needs. What you are able to do is not what all of us are able to do.

I am starting to see it right now, patient side. Never in my life thought it actually operated like this until I experienced it.

Cover-ups, blatant lies, bullying, dog-eat-dog. No recourse with institutions, regulators, or courts.

It’s what happens when humans are given free rein, a god complex, and no enforceable regulations.
