I LOVE how this clearly bad situation has inadvertently caused a great thing by bringing one of the best stories of all time back into the limelight.

C.S. Lewis’s ability to weave Biblical narratives into the Chronicles of Narnia is expert-level. His storytelling is so good that it causes me to have an even deeper understanding of the Bible.

When a boy wrote to C.S. Lewis, worried that he loved Aslan the lion more than he loved Jesus, Lewis told him something you would never expect...

Instead of saying the lion was just a character in a book, he told the boy he could not possibly love Aslan more than Jesus. Because Aslan is not a symbol for Christ: according to Lewis himself, Aslan IS Christ.

This is the thing most readers get wrong about Narnia. People call it an allegory, a tale where a lion stands in for Jesus the way a character might stand in for an idea.

Lewis rejected that completely...

In a letter he wrote: "If Aslan represented the immaterial Deity, he would be an allegorical figure." Instead, he explained, Aslan is the answer to a question: "What might Christ become like if there really were a world like Narnia, and He chose to be incarnate and die and rise again in that world as He actually has done in ours?"

The answer Lewis gave was a lion. And he explained exactly why: "Since Narnia is a world of Talking Beasts, I thought He would become a Talking Beast there, as He became a man here. I pictured Him becoming a lion," Lewis wrote, partly because the lion is the king of beasts, and partly because "Christ is called The Lion of Judah in the Bible."

Once you know this, the story of Narnia changes: the moment Aslan lays down his life on the Stone Table for a traitor, and rises again at dawn, is not like the story of Christ. To Lewis, it is that story, happening in another world. And it is why, in the final chapter of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Aslan tells the children this:

"I am in your world too. But there I have another name. You must learn to know me by that name. This was the very reason why you were brought to Narnia, that by knowing me here for a little, you may know me better there."

Yeah, I agree with you that convincing the public that AI is powerful and dangerous will increase value. That’s a good point.

At the same time I feel like it’s not a good look for AI companies now to publicly backpedal, admit that they’re being irresponsible, and say they need to slow down, considering a huge part of their valuation is in still-unachieved, rapid improvement towards AGI.

Trump is politically motivated to make the U.S. look more powerful and innovative than China. AI is also causing an economic boom that Trump is motivated not to stop as it makes him look good as the currently seating president. That’s what I meant by saying that.

Also, and correct me if I��m wrong, I believe a loud *slight* minority of Americans are against AI. The tides seem to be turning in that regard, at least from my personal, anecdotal point of view.

I don’t necessarily agree or disagree with all of his conclusions about AI. I’m more of a let’s-wait-and-see kind of person. I think it’s fair for him to say “AI is the future” and then also say “let’s be careful with it,” though.

But I do think it’s significant when three of the biggest leaders in AI are publicly announcing this, to their own detriment. That’s the main reason why I’m really interested in what’s going to happen next with AI.

But what’s the big deal if you could (hopefully) still have a loaner Tesla through Hertz/Enterprise?

You’re right on the money. A lot of predatory rural legacy providers are constantly increasing their prices and are overloading their already out-of-date, slow systems by adding new customers to them.

The price-to-speed ratio is absolutely outrageous. I’ve seen Starlink prices match some legacy prices but be up to 5-10x faster.

By volume, you’re correct. But by price, no. Based on their 2024-2025 annual report, Planned Parenthood performed 434,450 abortions during that period. If we go with a low estimate of $600 per abortion, then that’s 260 million dollars. My guess is that’s around 15-25% of their operating revenue.

But besides the point. Why would I care how many babies they’re killing if the fact remains that they are intentionally mass murdering innocent human beings? Ones that don’t even have the ability to speak for themselves?

@Couldcareless12 @pubity Police body cams should definitely not be banned. I wouldn’t lump it into that list. Those body cams are key to police and civilian accountability, which protects both cop and civilian.
