@ADemonicGift > drowned out everything else.
I knew he wasn’t one of them.
I knew that.
But I didn’t like feeling caged or being threatened. It never ended well.
“𝙉𝙤!”
A pulse of power rolled through me and exploded outward, making every light bulb in the house burst at once.

Sleep was generally hard to come by whenever Sam and his mother moved to a new place — and tonight was no exception. They had been moved —
@ADemonicGift > curled against the counter.
The kitchen suddenly felt smaller, the walls closing in around me as that strange sensation pressed against my mind again.
My breathing grew shallow. I could hear my own heartbeat pounding in my ears, increasing to a hummingbird rhythm, until it >
> I wasn't a fan of coffee, so warm milk would have to do.
While I poured it into two mugs for us, I stared at Eddie.
There were no pancakes without syrup.
"Welcome."
I speared the stack with the fork, dividing it in half, bringing mine to my plate.
I nodded.
Pancakes were comforting. Especially fluffy like this.
I paused, glancing around.
"Syrup?"
Just then, the milk started to boil, and I stood to turn off the stove.
>
“Thank you.”
He gave her a grateful smile as she joined him, then turned his attention to the stack of pancakes. A brow raised, looking from her and to it.
“You do this a lot at home?”
@PirouetteOfIron She was oddly warm and kind.
And I liked her laugh...
Not many took kindly to getting their fridges raided.
Another pause and a nod, licking my lips, still tasting the sauce.
I lifted the lemonade to sip.
She was a good cook.
I'd probably grab anything @PirouetteOfIron has in her fridge.
I'd be happy with a burger or sausages, though.
Does she has French fries.
I really like French fries.
Sam's features lit up, and there was a twinkle in his eyes I couldn't quite decipher.
But he looked... happy? Maybe?
I nodded again, blowing a strand of hair from my face, eyes crossing.
Pride wasn’t strong enough of a word for what spread through him at that moment he heard her voice. Those two small words meant so much to him.
“You’re welcome.”
I followed the recipe I had memoried to a T, and took my time to make a stack of fluffy richness on a plate.
Of course I made enough to end in a 'food coma' like Dustin usually called it.
Once I was done, I returned to the table, plopping down onto a chair next to him.
“Okay. Alright.”
He raised his hands in a gesture to say he wouldn’t interrupt her cooking, laughing softly at the expression she had given him.
Instead, he brought plates to her and settled back down, watching her work.
I made a face at him when he made me pause, and continued to make breakfast for us.
I didn't ( have ) to, but I ( wanted ) to.
He didn't really have much there, but at least I could make pancakes. Fluffy, the way I liked them.
He took the water gratefully, taking a quick drink before he screwed the bottle lid back on.
“Woah — hey.”
Once he caught sight of what she was doing, he scrambled to his feet, taking a moment to get his balance.
“It’s okay. I’ll do that. You don’t have to.”
After a brief pause, I walked to the fridge for a bottle of water for him, handing it to him before I grabbed some ingredients to put together breakfast.
He laughed quietly, brushing his curls out of his line of sight.
“Uh —”
He gestured briefly to the guitar nearby, then a few bottles surrounding him.
“Long night. Loud night. Couldn’t sleep.”
