During the State Visit today in Ankara, Türkiye, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and I reaffirmed our shared ambition, which speaks directly to jobs, investment, and opportunity for our people, creating a clear pathway to a five-billion-dollar trade volume between Nigeria and Türkiye.

Our conversations were practical and forward-looking: trade and investment, energy, education, defence cooperation, peace and security, and the creation of a Joint Economy and Trade Committee to unlock new flows of capital and deepen Turkish investment in Nigeria.

I welcome President Erdoğan’s recognition of Nigeria’s reform momentum, particularly in the energy sector, and his confidence in our determination to build an economy that works for everyone, including the most vulnerable.

We also spoke frankly about security. Nigeria will continue to play its role in peace and stability in Africa. Türkiye’s experience and readiness to cooperate in military training, intelligence sharing, and counter-terrorism efforts strengthen our collective resolve against agents of destabilisation in the Sahel and beyond.

At the conclusion of our meetings, nine agreements were exchanged across defence, education, media, diaspora policy, trade, social development, and institutional cooperation between our foreign ministries.

Nigeria remains open for serious partnership. Open to trade without barriers.
Open to ideas, skills, and investment that create value and shared prosperity.

We are building an inclusive economy. We are strengthening peace. Nigeria will continue to engage the world with confidence and clarity.

THE JAGABAN STRATEGY: HOW TINUBU PLAYS HIS GAME.

I was once on the panel of this Leadership conference.

Then the moderator asked me,

"As a rising leader who's your biggest influence?"

Without a shadow of doubt, I said Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The hall went crazy.

The lady pretended like she didn't hear what I said , she asked again.

"Mr Max I asked who are you learning from more ?"

I replied, "I heard you the first time and I said Bola Ahmed Tinubu."

The room went crazy.

How could this crazy guy whose views have been controversial since the beginning of this conference say now again that "Tinubu is his biggest influence?"

I said , okay people...

Calm down...let me tell you why.

Give me just ten minutes and when I am done you'll understand.

What I am going to present here are the replies I gave to them.

They're not just stories but Lessons from his Life, Politics and Leadership that every rising leader must Learn.

There is a reason his supporters call him Jagaban — the field marshal who plans battles long before the first shot is fired.

Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s life and political journey is not built on noise, populism or accidental success.

It is built on strategy, patience, alliances, sacrifice and institutional thinking.

If you remove emotions and propaganda, what remains is a masterclass in power, governance and survival.

Here are the key life and political strategies of the Jagaban, backed by real events and his own words.

1. Play the Long Game, Not the Crowd Game.

Tinubu never chased instant popularity.

He invested in structures, people and institutions.

After the June 12 annulment, Tinubu chose exile over compromise.

As Lagos Governor (1999–2007), Tinubu focused on revenue, not slogans.

Lagos IGR grew from about ₦600 million monthly to over ₦7 billion despite federal hostility and illegal seizure of LG funds.

When the federal government withheld Lagos funds, Tinubu didn’t cry — he innovated.

5. Never Fight All Battles at Once.

Tinubu knows when to fight, when to retreat, and when to negotiate.

Many thought he was going to drown. Instead he turned them into allies and even added France and Israel to his strategic alliance against insecurity.

Earlier today, I was researching to see what the world is saying concerning Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu 's reforms.

Honestly, I was happy.

The man has brain.

He might be quiet, but very Smart.

The uncomfortable truth many don’t want to hear, especially the people wey no like us 😂

Is that...

International economic institutions and respected economists are largely aligned that Tinubu’s reforms are “necessary, overdue, and structurally correct.”

Yes — the same reforms Nigerians are cursing daily.

I don't blame them, humans like certainty and fear uncertainty.

Even the children of Israel preferred the certain and assuring provision of daily cucumbers 🥒 in Egypt, to the uncertainty of a life in the wilderness.

No one believes in a future they don't see

But even if you don't see reasons to believe.

Let the words of these authorities inspire hope in you.

Let’s name names.

IMF & WORLD BANK

Both institutions have repeatedly emphasized that:

Ending fuel subsidy was inevitable.

FX unification was long overdue.

Artificial controls were killing investor confidence.

Their position is simple:

Nigeria was living a lie — borrowing to subsidize consumption while strangling production.

Tinubu chose surgery over painkillers.

Their verdict?

👉 Short-term pain, long-term correction.

👉 Bad politics, but sound economics.

NGOZI OKONJO-IWEALA (WTO DG, former Finance Minister)

Dr. Ngozi has been consistent for over a decade:

Subsidies benefit the elite more than the poor, she's been saying that.

FX distortions fuel corruption.

Structural reform is unavoidable for growth.

She has openly warned in the past that delay only makes reform more painful.

What Tinubu is doing now is what successive governments postponed out of fear.

The pain Nigerians feel today is the accumulated bill of yesterday’s cowardice.

CHARLES SOLUDO (Economist & CBN Governor Emeritus).

Professor Soludo has gone further than most politicians dare:

Calling subsidy “economic sabotage”.

Describing multiple exchange rates as “state-sponsored corruption”.

Arguing that Nigeria must choose between reform or ruin itself.

👉 You cannot grow an economy by lying to prices.

👉 You cannot industrialize with fake FX.

GLOBAL ECONOMISTS & INVESTORS

What they’re seeing:

Improved fiscal transparency.

A more credible Central Bank posture.

Rising interest from long-term capital (not quick speculators).

Nigeria is no longer seen as a country afraid of hard choices.

But the controversial part is this..

International agencies rate MACRO indicators.

Nigerians live MICRO economic reality.

- Food prices still hurt
- Transport costs are brutal
- Wages haven’t caught up

So the real argument is not whether Tinubu’s reforms are correct.

The real argument is whether government is moving fast enough to protect the poor while fixing the system.

But here's the question ah go like make we answer..

Would Nigerians prefer:

Comfortable lies that lead to collapse just like we've had for so many years...

OR

Painful truth that leads to stability?

Because every serious economist agrees on one thing:

👉 There is NO PAIN-FREE way to fix a broken economy.

But what do actually think?

Maybe how I am seeing it is different from how una dey see am..

“These reforms are necessary — we must endure.”

OR

“Economists don’t buy food in the market — this pain is too much.”
