Seven years ago, Christchurch, and New Zealand, showed the world strength, compassion and unity in the face of tragedy.

Blue Flag Beaches, a far fetched dream for #Chennai? Deputy chief minister @Udhaystalin inaugurated the Marina blue flag beach project recently but @chennaicorp has to work overtime to achieve the goal. Marina and Besant Nagar beaches, once iconic landmarks of Chennai, are now drowning in civic neglect. Broken and missing footpaths, overflowing garbage piles reaching 75-100 tonnes on weekends, and non-functional toilets with no water or sanitation have turned these shores into a public nightmare. Besant Nagar alone houses six restrooms, none meeting the basic standards for hygiene nor disability accessibility. The dream of achieving the global Blue Flag certification, which requires 24/7 clean facilities, waste management, and safe water, seems distant as sewage and drainage issues remain unresolved. As coastal expert R. Ramasubramanian of @mssrf puts it, “Without fixing drainage and sewage, clean beaches are a distant dream.” Can Chennai restore its shoreline legacy before it’s too late?
