Just a brief spell of rain today, and the roads of our "Smart City" Srinagar are completely flooded. From Lal Chowk to Downtown, and even at JVC Hospital in Bemina, everyday life has been brought to a standstill. People are struggling just to commute—🌧️
This is not merely an inconvenience; it raises serious questions about our drainage infrastructure and how public funds are being utilized. I respectfully urge the Hon'ble LG and CM of J&K to order an independent inquiry into this failure. If there has been negligence in planning, construction, or maintenance, those responsible must be held accountable.

This isn't a strategy meeting; it is a desperate, closed-door floor test for a government that is completely aloof, isolated, and rapidly losing its grip. When you have zero administrative authority on the ground and internal rifts are exploding, I guess hiding in a restricted wildlife sanctuary with endangered Hanguls is the only option left.
A complete mockery of the democratic mandate! The NC is imploding, and this picnic in the woods just proves they have no real agenda for the public.

We market Dal Lake and the Jhelum River to the entire world as the pristine crown jewels of Kashmir’s natural beauty. Yet, the way we actually treat these lifelines on a daily basis is an act of blatant ecological hypocrisy.
Stand on the inner bridges of Srinagar or take a closer look at the backwaters of our famed lakes, and the romantic illusion shatters completely. We are systematically choking our water bodies to death. Despite the crores of funds supposedly allocated for conservation over the decades, raw, untreated sewage from surrounding localities, hotels, and commercial establishments continues to flow directly into the Jhelum and Dal.
The water that has historically sustained entire communities and ecosystems is being reduced to a murky, toxic dumping ground for single-use plastics, medical waste, and urban runoff. We are actively poisoning our own water table and suffocating the aquatic life, all while turning a blind eye to the illegal encroachments slowly eating away the banks.
We cannot write poetry about our beautiful rivers while simultaneously treating them as open municipal sewers. Conservation cannot just be a seasonal de-weeding drive for VIP photo-ops and drone shots. It requires aggressive, year-round accountability, strictly enforced sewage treatment protocols, and heavy penalties for anyone caught polluting.
If we do not urgently change our civic behavior and demand real administrative execution, the next generation will only read about the pristine waters of Kashmir in history books.

A 12-year-old girl left for Darsgah with the Quran in her hands, innocent and unaware that she would never return home alive. The news has left hearts shattered, because no words can truly describe the pain of seeing such a young child become a victim of such brutality.
This tragedy is deeply horrifying and heartbreaking. A little girl who should have been safe, protected, and surrounded by love was taken away in the cruelest way possible, leaving behind unimaginable grief for her family.
Those responsible for this crime must face strict and immediate punishment under the law. Justice for this innocent child is not just a demand — it is the right of her grieving family, who deserve answers, accountability, and justice for their daughter.

We are witnessing a tragic paradox in Jammu & Kashmir: a generation holding the highest number of degrees, trapped in the highest level of economic anxiety.
The traditional obsession with securing a government job has become a dead end. Every time a handful of administrative posts are advertised, hundreds of thousands of overqualified candidates—PhDs, engineers, and postgraduates—scramble in a desperate race. The intense, ongoing debates around regional reservation policies only highlight how incredibly narrow and saturated this single avenue of employment has become. The hard truth is that the government simply cannot absorb an entire generation of graduates.
We cannot fix 2026 problems with outdated economic models. The relentless wait for government recruitment drives is causing a massive brain drain, forcing our brightest minds to migrate to Pune, Bangalore, or the Middle East just to find dignified work.
We need a radical shift from a government-dependent economy to a thriving, localized private sector. It is time to aggressively foster the local youth startup ecosystem. Instead of forcing our youth to navigate endless bureaucratic red tape, the administration must build modern IT hubs and provide tangible support for entrepreneurs. If we want to secure the future of our youth, we must empower them to create businesses in forward-looking sectors like Artificial Intelligence, modern tech, and digital services right here in the valley.
Our youth do not just need job portals and endless exam notifications; they need an economic ecosystem that actually values their modern skills.

We talk a lot about infrastructure and politics, but there is a silent, devastating epidemic eating away at the very core of our society in Kashmir: the drug crisis.
Walk past certain local parks after dusk or look closely at the alleys in our neighborhoods, and the reality is heartbreaking. We are losing an entire generation of brilliant, capable youth to substance abuse. It is no longer a distant tragedy happening to "someone else's family"—it has reached our own mohallas. What started as a wave of anxiety has spiraled into a nightmare of heroin and synthetic drug addiction, bringing along terrifying secondary health crises like Hepatitis C and HIV from shared needles. Every parent in Kashmir today lives with a quiet, lingering fear.
Credit must be given where it is due: The "Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan" driven by the LG administration is undeniably a very positive, much-needed step. It has sparked crucial conversations, mobilized community awareness, and finally brought this taboo issue out of the shadows.
But while awareness is the essential first step, winning this battle on the ground requires a massive escalation. We need a dual-front war to save our youth:
Ruthless Action on Supply: We need absolute, zero-tolerance crackdowns by the authorities on the drug peddlers and the narco-supply chains destroying our neighborhoods. Those selling this poison to our kids must face the strictest legal consequences without leniency.
Compassionate Rehabilitation: Addiction is a disease, not a moral failing. While the government's awareness campaigns are commendable, we urgently need to multiply the number of accessible, state-sponsored, and stigma-free drug de-addiction and counseling centers. We need them in every single district, fully staffed with psychiatrists, not just in Srinagar.
We cannot afford to look the other way while our future wastes away in the shadows. It is time for community leaders, parents, and the administration to work hand-in-hand to build a truly Nasha Mukt Kashmir.

We keep hearing about the "Smart City" transformation of Srinagar. The Jhelum Riverfront and Polo View look beautiful under the new lights. But the harsh, widely spoken reality on the ground is entirely different: our city has been completely taken over by stray dogs.
The numbers are terrifying and impossible to ignore. J&K has reported over 2 lakh dog bite cases in just the last two years. SMHS hospital alone recorded over 17,000 animal bite cases in a single year. That is nearly 150 people being attacked every single day.
But statistics don't capture the daily psychological toll on the ground. Go beyond the beautified city center into major residential hubs like Jawahar Nagar, Chanapora, and my own neighborhood of Bagh-i-Mehtab. Here, the stray population is so massive that everyday routines have been completely disrupted. The simple, peaceful habit of going for a morning walk has become a terrifying ordeal. Elderly citizens are giving up their routines, and parents are terrified to let their children walk to the local bakery or school because large packs of dogs aggressively patrol the lanes.
To be absolutely clear: Animal rights are valid and incredibly important. Stray dogs are living beings that deserve to be treated humanely, with dignity and care. They are victims of a broken urban ecosystem, and cruelty is never the answer. But animal welfare and public safety are not opposing goals—they must go hand in hand. Right now, by letting the population explode without management, the authorities are failing both the citizens and the animals. 
We don't need cosmetic upgrades while our streets remain fundamentally unsafe. We need scientific, humane, and urgent solutions from the administration. This means:
Aggressively expanding the Animal Birth Control (sterilization) programs at Tengpora and Shuhama without endless "funding crunch" delays.
Enforcing strict waste management to clear out open garbage dumps (like the ones near the Bagh-i-Mehtab railway stretch) that act as massive feeding grounds.
Establishing dedicated shelters and designated feeding zones so animals are cared for safely, away from dense residential lanes. 
We are paying taxes for a safe, livable city. A truly "Smart City" protects its citizens while treating its animals with dignity. It is time the administration wakes up and implements a humane blueprint before more people—and animals—suffer.

A few days ago, I traveled out of the state, driving all the way from Srinagar down to Jammu and onward to the Lakhanpur border. Passing toll plaza after toll plaza on that long stretch, a quiet frustration set in. But what struck me most is that even when I am just traveling within my own state, I am faced with the exact same helpless trap.
As an everyday commuter, you essentially have two choices, and both feel like a penalty:
The Long Route: You can choose the older, toll-free alternative roads. But that means battling heavy local traffic, navigating congested markets, and handling poorly maintained stretches that drain your time and physical energy.
The Highway Route: You choose the smoother, shorter National Highway (NH44) because it is the only viable, safe way to travel. But every few kilometers, a boom barrier drops. The FASTag scanner beeps, and a heavy chunk of your money is instantly deducted.
Sitting at one of those plazas, the math just doesn't add up.
"I already pay my Income Tax to build the nation," I thought to myself. "And when I bought this personal car, I paid a massive upfront Road Tax to the state just to register it. If I have already paid the government twice for public infrastructure, why am I pulling out my wallet a third time just to drive from my home to the next district?"
It makes you question the fairness of the system. In Delhi, private cars (LMVs) are exempted from paying the commercial entry tolls at the borders. Why can't a similar policy apply here? Why aren't everyday citizens driving their personal Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) exempted from these heavy tolls, at least when traveling within their home state?
When the free alternative roads are left so impractical, taking the toll highway isn't a premium luxury—it is a basic necessity. We are trapped in a system where we either pay with our time and energy on broken roads, or pay repeatedly with our hard-earned money at endless barriers.
Why are everyday commuters subjected to this "triple taxation" just to exercise their basic right to move freely in their own region?

A glimpse of our locality after just one night of on-and-off rain. The entire lane is heavily waterlogged, making it nearly impossible for pedestrians—especially children and the elderly—to walk safely.

This isn't just a one-time issue; the complete absence of a proper drainage system leaves us stranded every time there's a downpour. It is incredibly frustrating that basic civic amenities feel like a luxury here.

It's high time the administration takes notice and provides a permanent infrastructural fix before heavier rains set in.
