Every other turn of events since the Pahalgam terror attack has administered an unhealthy dose of unfiltered reality to the deluded Hindu masses. This despite the relentless propaganda generated by news media outlets and social media influencers. The reality checks have been so brutal that for the reasonably vigilant, the sequence of events could well be paradigm-shifting in how they think about politics.

At the root of the mass delusion is the inability of the Indian republic to deal with the paradox of Kashmir. How do you come to terms with the fact that the majority of citizens in a state have weaponised their democratic right to wholly discard democracy and push for secession from the republic? To admit that is nothing short of an existential crisis for the Indian State. Thus, from the times of Chacha Nehru, it has pretended to love Kashmiri Muslims and vainly tried to buy them over through tourism, investment, tax breaks and all kinds of shady perks.

While the abrogation of 370 tightened India's legal grip over Kashmir, it had no effect on the deep-seated paradox mentioned above. This could be seen in the way we reacted to the Pahalgam incident. Losing no time after the attack, India was quick to blame Pakistan. This was true but only half-true and the other half of the truth is what makes Kashmir so hard to comprehend for the Indian psyche and makes them gulp all sorts of misleading info thrown at them.

Over the decades, India has witnessed a widespread feminization of discourse (accurately captured in the choice of defense spokespersons), reflected in the average Hindu's prioritisation of comfort over truth. Think 'Captain Vishwaguru'. Both brutal truth-telling (masculine) and empathetic moderation (feminine) are essential components of a healthy narrative, but in India the pendulum stopped swinging way way back and has been stuck at one extreme for far too long. The problem is exacerbated by the overall decline in the status of men in the modern era and a corresponding loss of testosterone-driven social codes of honour, dignity, clarity of thought and seriousness.

Hindus need their men to get their act together. Stop simping for the politically powerful and realise that individuals have just one single interface with the mammoth organism called the State. That interface is called election and its impact can be likened to blowing hot air to stop an incoming bullet train. The only way to have a meaningful relationship with the State is through the archetype of brotherhood - guilds, associations, societies, trusts, companies and so on. Arrange to concentrate power in the hands of a few and let power deal with power. All else is a cope.
