This will be my Matt Walsh in Iowa City thread. Line is currently forming inside of the IMU for attendees. Iowa City police department, University Police, and Johnson County Sheriff are all here, and have brought in K-9 units to, assumedly, sniff for explosives.
@Eva_J_Sherman@JaredK22 Can’t believe we’re still having this conversation. Public schools are especially vulnerable right now; it’s flagrant disrespect to vandalize a public school building, and to do it when public school funding is already under attack?? You’re basically endorsing vouchers.
The Red Oak Tigers beat the St. Albert Falcons 84-48. KMA POGs were Aiden Bruce (22pts) and Max DeVries (16pts) for the Tigers. Colin Lillie led the Falcons with 18pts. #kmasports
IOWA CITY: Sources tell me that there is a protest planned at The University of Iowa tomorrow at 7pm outside Trowbridge Hall in opposition to openly bigoted and admitted war criminal Allen West, who’s giving a lecture titled “Debunking Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.”
BREAKING: The Uvalde PD and Uvalde Independent School District police force are no longer cooperating with the Texas Dept. of Public Safety's investigation into Robb Elementary School shooting, multiple law enforcement sources tell @ABC News. https://t.co/ORQTMhDstS
The argument that “criminals don’t follow laws” implies that even a reduction in gun violence is not worth it. The shooter at my high school was not a mastermind he was a 19y/o who was able to go out and legally buy an AR 15. No law is perfect. A reduction is better than nothing.
This article offers great insight as to how online hate is a predictor for violence. Believe girls when they’re scared. Make them feel like their safety matters so they report hate. And make sure they don’t feel like it’s their responsibility to play nice with “loners.” (3/3)
Just want to point this out to anyone prioritizing the effect of bullying or exclusion ahead of his easy access to guns; some students who are “loners” are alone because they’ve been habitually making others feel unsafe. (1/n)
New: The Uvalde gunman had threatened to rape, kill and kidnap girls in online messages before the attack. But teens who reported it were ignored, and some saw his angry misogyny as just “how online is" https://t.co/CNFJ446sbN @SilviaElenaFF@Cat_Zakrzewski@NaomiNixWrites
I once reported a student who made me fear for their safety and that of myself and others. Nothing ever came of it and luckily no further harm occurred, but I was encouraged to continue to try to include them to the detriment of my own mental health and sense of safety. (2/n)
@SenJoniErnst Hi Joni,
I’m from Red Oak. We’re neighbors. I can tell you firsthand that students here, in your community, have been scared of this since Parkland. A lot of us were just waiting for the day. We didn’t feel safe. What have you done to protect us?
