Like DCI says anyone can start a soundsport group and besides, the activity needs younger people to start corps. It's been the same people the past 30 years and we need some fresh blood
It's pretty frustrating seeing the drum corps subreddit shit on new corps. For people who complain about the supposed death of the activity, they really don't want more corps.
The value in College Athletics is in regional pride and friendly tribalism. It's never been about the best players in the world (That's the NFL). This is what ESPN never understood.
You can't curry attention to schools that viewers don't have emotional ties to. If I live in Montana, I don't care that Texas Tech's $50 Million team is playing Oklahoma's $30 Million team. Nobody I work with went there. Nobody I'm seeing over the holidays went there. Neither are as good as the worst NFL team.
It's not interesting and it's not a viable financial model.
Deep seeded regional rivalries that split a family down the middle on Thanksgiving week? That's a game people are interested in.
I have a feeling we will see at least one show commemorating Americas 250th anniversary next year. I feel like it'd be a perfect show for Cadets to do if they were still around
A few months ago my friends and I were putting on bad music videos and I vaguely remembered this and put it on. Hard to describe what happened next, ten seconds in everyone was genuinely concerned about me, I was laughing so hard I was choking and crying for four minutes straight
I'm really enjoying the revivals of old corps that are going on thanks to soundsport. Although DCI has issues with keeping corps the returns of Blue Saints, Conquest (successors to emerald knights), Carolina Gold, Legacy/Cadets, MB3, Mon Valley Express, SCA and Sky Ryders is good
There should be no shame in corps doing regional tours. I get only 8 open class corps came to Indy, but there are SIXTEEN current open class corps who toured this season plus 2 others who took the season off. Also, I have to mention open clas candidates Arsenal and Eclipse.
Open class prelims is small but there could be anywhere from 16-20 corps touring in open class next summer. Also, people want more regionalization. And most of open class is teaching us how to do that and provide a good member experience
