After 16.5 hours at the Capitol yesterday I finally got to testify in front of the House Committee in opposition of Senate Bill 3 (at 12:30am this morning 🫠).
SB3 is Dan Patrick’s bill that aims to “Ban THC” and shut down the multi-billion dollar Texas hemp industry.
The Committee responsible for reviewing the bill was surprisingly receptive to our testimonies. They actively listened to nearly 200 testimonies from industry leaders, veterans, and sick children who have all benefited tremendously from the magical healing powers of the cannabis plant.
They asked nuanced questions and were humble about their lack of knowledge on the topic. They seemed genuinely interested in understanding this complex situation. I’m feeling very hopeful that they will do the right thing for the people of Texas.
Now is the time to contact your reps and tell them to VOTE NO on both SB3 and HB28. Both bills effectively shut down the hemp industry and prevent millions of Texans from safe access to a God-given plant.
We set up a landing page with a form to find your rep’s email and an email template you can use to oppose these bills. Go to https://t.co/aZNwh07oO7
“You’ll see some more vetoes come up,” @GregAbbott_TX warned me (and #txlege) during an interview yesterday.
He didn’t say which bills exactly are next on the chopping block but he promised they are coming.
@ChadHastyRadio@spiphywarfare@DanPatrick@electcharles They also have super limited product options bc there is essentially once company that controls the entire market.
TCUP is simply a regulatory capture system for pharma to control cannabis without competition from real entrepreneurs in a free (reasonably regulated) market.
Congrats to @DanPatrick, @electcharles and the Texas House for banning hemp products that don’t get you high, but help with pain. Looking forward to your legislation banning alcohol. Also when vets are arrested for possession of what was legal, it’s on you and so is the fallout. But the bigger winner tonight? Big Pharma.
