PhD candidate @PeterMacCC. Looking at treatment-induced senescence in ovarian cancer. Fascinated by all things science #staycurious. Caffeine addict ☕️ She/her.
If you’ve ever thought why is there not a better treatment for x, y, or z or been thankful there was a good treatment option it’s because the investment in research was made. Aus has the minds, the skills, the technology - we just don’t have the money #SaveOzScience#research
Prof Fiona Wood AM, research pioneer & @TheASMR1 medallist, delivering the @PressClubAust address, on the funding crisis:
“I live with the fact that I can’t sleep at night because I haven’t got enough funding for my junior researchers, and where am I going to get it from?-

Important debate happening in Australia about research funding. A country that doesn’t invest in research (in science and social science and the arts by the way) will inevitably become a country in relative decline. The 21st century will be the century of knowledge.
The symptoms of ovarian cancer are commonly misdiagnosed as gastrointestinal or bowel problems, leading to high rates of late diagnosis in women. In a new @nhmrc project, our aim is to create a device that could detect ovarian cancer before symptoms arise

So thankful to the @VCCCAlliance for giving us the opportunity to hear from Prof. Harold Varmus, took me to the end of the session to get over my nerves to ask a question (went over-time!) but Prof. Varmus was gracious and very giving of his time and words of wisdom #Inspired
@the_funkydr Hahaha more like twitter as a form of procrastination 😬 slowly trying to engage with it more though instead of just lurking! Thanks again for an engaging talk!
So if you’re in science & need a bit of comic relief right now I’d just like to remind everyone there is a twitter account ran by an electric eel - its tank is wired to a 💻 and every time it discharges electricity it equals tweets like ZAP! or BUZZ! etc. 😂⚡️😎@EelectricMiguel
Science is getting us out of the pandemic, and science and technology is what is needed for our future yet our government has done everything in its power to decimate the sector as we head into a future that is increasingly more reliant on it 🧐#auspol#ClimateAction#STEM
It is probable science will get us through… but it is unlikely to be Australian-based science due to the lack of investment in science by successive Australian governments
