Any single Republican senator could have stopped the Thune/Schumer DHS deal, but not one did. Not a single one.

Republican senators knew leadership’s plan ahead of time, and they still left town knowing exactly what was coming at 3 a.m., while Americans were sleeping.

GREAT NEWS! House and Senate leadership are now supporting the ouster of radical District Attorney Mulroy. I appreciate Speaker Sexton’s understanding that our quality-of-life is unsustainable in Mulroy’s Memphis. @CSexton25

Mulroy’s ouster is also supported by Lt. Governor Randy McNally, senate leadership, and numerous other Senators from throughout the state. We cannot take this support of Memphis for granted! When I arrived in the Senate 1.5 years ago, I was a freshman senator with no seniority and I was not in a leadership position; however, I knew I had to fight to #MakeMemphisMatter in the Senate.

I began inviting my colleagues to Memphis to meet with crime victims, business leaders, elected officials, and community members. At my request, many of my colleagues have been to Memphis many times over the past year. I know these efforts to Make Memphis Matter are working! Every senator left understanding Memphis crime is worse than they thought, but Memphis’ potential is greater than the challenges that lay ahead of her.

Leadership in our state’s legislature understands with Mulroy as our top prosecutor, our crime challenge is made worse. His continuous attempts to circumvent the legislature to follow the law as he wishes it were written rather than how it is actually written is grounds enough for removal as provided in Article VI, Section 6 of the state constitution. Radical progressive criminal justice groups, or Restorative Justice Schemers as we now call them, target Shelby County because they know we have a weak, acquiescent, compliant D.A. who either agrees with their efforts or refuses to fight against them.

Shelby County needs a D.A. who fights for the law-abiding and honors victims. Instead, in Mulroy’s Memphis we have a D.A. who cares more about the criminal than protecting the law-abiding. His ideas are better suited for a law school discussion than in our top prosecutor’s office.

Together, we will prevail. I am fighting for you. Senate and House leadership is behind us. We will make our community safe…by MAKING MEMPHIS MATTER!
