Most people build houses on the land. This guy decided to build his into it.

A former chemical engineer and veteran coder built this stone-covered dome home straight into a Texas hill. He used what he learned in his heat transfer class — that if you go underground, the earth naturally stays around 65 degrees year round. So instead of fighting the Texas heat and cold with big HVAC systems, he let the ground do most of the work.

From the outside, it almost disappears into the hillside. But once you step through the wooden doors, it opens up into something completely unexpected.

He embraced the “cave” feeling instead of trying to make it look like a normal house. There’s a loft area with plants growing under a big skylight, a full kitchen, an open living space, a hammock, a pool table, and even a little indoor fish pond.

It’s quirky, creative, and clearly built by someone who wasn’t afraid to do things his own way.
