hi, artist here!! the reason many people think Disney faces look so similar is because of angles and proportions.
most of their protagonists all end up with the same proportions, with round upturned eyes and upturned noses. I lined some examples to better explain my point
I suppose this is my hill to die on, but it does frustrate and bewilder me that people know so little about how games actually get made. I know it's not their fault, publishers have engineered this situation, but it's still wearisome.

One message of FF7 that people really under discuss is the relationship between tourism and colonialism. Wutai and Costa del Sol being turned into tourist traps, the Gold Saucer being built on top of the ruins of Corel, Cosmo Canyon having its indigenous culture seen as a mere…
The "immersive sim" timeline for beginners:
- 1990s: Doug Church coined it to describe Looking Glass' masterpieces such as Ultima Underworld, System Shock, Thief;
- 2000s: Warren Spector used it to introduce Deus Ex and Harvey Smith further enriched the design philosophy;
What bothers me most about posts like this is how much the tech industry has formatted us to expect things to automatically improve with time. But they don't, especially art. Composition, lighting choices, animation, are subjective creative choices. Also, 12 years is nothing.
Microsoft is launching Xbox Mode for Windows 11 PCs next month, and has also unveiled how its laying the foundations for the next-gen Xbox with Windows. It's moving Windows game development and Xbox game development onto the same path, making it easy to build once and deploy across PC and Xbox. https://t.co/FJswCfSXWs
Basically true of most other areas of culture, too. No new genres of music, etc. So much modern culture is backward-looking & revivalist, to an unprecedented extent relative to past eras that also involved revivals. Something is happening we don't fully understand yet
Parrying in video games is a double edged sword in that it is a relatively easy to implement feature that gives the player an infinitely repeatable source of dopamine that rewards skill but it is very vulnerable to becoming the *only* combat mechanic they engage with
>We stopped making games for kids so the new generation of gamers wasn't properly cultivated
>Games can now have lifespans (Minecraft, Roblox) so a single purchase goes further
>Boated dev times means franchises no longer release annually so you wait longer in-between purchases
It’s depressing realizing how many folks brimming with talent aren’t able to pursue their passions because they’re bogged down and forced to just become another cog in the machine
