In a letter to FG this week, reader Gillon Dobie says the glyphosate debate is much more balanced than a simple yes or no.

"Refusing to use it at all — when a field is losing the battle to black-grass and the entire rotation is at risk — is equally poor medicine.

"The debate should be about when and where, not whether."

Really good points made in this article. Potential winning discoveries from plant science research will generally not reach the marketplace unless they are tested in relevant environments, i.e. field trials are needed to prove a finding is agriculturally useful.
