The truth is that prioritising home grown UK graduates is not by itself the issue . Many countries will eventually try to create space for their own graduates and most of us understand that reality. What makes this situation so heartbreaking is where the push has come from(The BMA)
BMA, the very association that claims to represent all doctors. An organisation supported by thousands of IMGs who pay their membership dues faithfully every month has championed a cause that ultimately works against many of those same doctors.
Many IMGs seized to be members months ago and we still keep encouraging others to do the same. We cannot continue to be members of an organisation that takes thousands of pounds from international doctors while championing a cause that harms them.
Even those of us who may not personally be affected cannot stay silent and wat h our fellow colleagues treated as expendables.
We stand in solidarity with our friends and colleagues who have given so much so far only to now feel the system is turning its back on them.
And that more than anything else is truly heartbreaking.
